Oikawa and Iwaizumi have been together all of their lives. Hell, Oikawa even followed Iwaizmi to California to play volleyball at university. That's fine because if he hadn't, Iwaizumi would have followed him wherever he went.
Iwa has been protecting his best friend all their lives, but it became a habit when it was revealed that Oikawa has a sensitivity to Alpha pheromones. If the pheromones are too thick or heavy, Oikawa will forget how to breathe. All those years of protecting him has made Iwa a safe place, maybe it's psychosomatic. But that doesn't matter, Oikawa depends on him and Iwa is happy for it.
The troubles that other Alphas and Omegas have shouldn't touch them. Oikawa is a recessive Omega, which means he's almost no better than a Beta, so he doesn't have to worry about Iwaizumi being a dominant Alpha. They can exist together as always. But...someone should have told him that some things are inevitable. And you can't defy fate.
Not Oikawa. Not Iwaizumi. Fate will always find a way.

Iwaizumi went perfectly still when he was deciding something important--the half second when his arms drew back for a jump, the half second when Tooru’s set hung, dead-on, in the palm of his hand. “I’ve watched you play.
