Summary
Cassandra hated the Kingdom of Corona for as long as she could remember. She knew that she was an embodiment of everything this miserable place despised and feared. She had to hide her parentage and her powers just not to be hung or burnt at a stake, and even then, the people in charge never let her be anything more than a humble servant.
For a moment, she hoped that Rapunzel wasn’t like the rest of them. Maybe the Princess, with her undying enthusiasm and friendly attitude, could start some positive changes in Corona. Until the blizzard that struck Corona revealed the Kingdom’s heir’s true face, that is. After that, Cassandra was certain that this place was truly beyond any chance at redemption.
And if the stories she recently heard were true, she wasn’t the only person holding this belief.

She dedicated her life to serving her Kingdom and its Royal Family. After Princess Rapunzel returned to Corona, Cassandra repeatedly risked everything to be the best friend and protector she could ever have. She hoped that, if she is patient enough, someday someone will finally appreciate her efforts. Instead, she was met with disappointment and hurt over and over again.
After the events of the Great Tree, she decided that she sacrificed enough. It was the high time to finally think about herself for a change.

“Okay.” Varian set his water on the ground and stood.
Hector growled.
“Down, boy,” said Adira. “Go ahead, Varian.”
He followed Cassandra down the hall and around a few corners until there was no one around. She looked at him, clearly searching for somewhere to start.
He beat her to it. “So. What’d you get off with?”
“What?”
“For nearly destroying the kingdom.” He hadn’t meant to be mean, but standing in the palace with her brought back memories, so he was. “I mean, I got a life sentence with no trial, but you’re still walking free. What’d you get?”

Aka Varian gets surprised adopted and Cass becomes his big sister. Evil shenanigans ensue.
