Patrick stops taking his suppressants.
Folie was the most of himself he'd ever put onto a Fall Out Boy record, and and people made it pretty clear how they felt about that one. Soul Punk was even worse; he’d practically cut his wrists and bled dry for it, squeezing out the entire contents of his heart only for it to be called disastrous. A downgrade.
There wasn’t any use in trying to still hide himself away when those songs contained his whole entire being. And if people didn’t like those, then what the fuck else was there for people to hate about him? At least this way, people will actually start taking him as an alpha.

They’re all going down, whether they like it or not. Nothing to do but sink to the bottom, nowhere to go but down It’s just a matter of when. Either the sides cave in and saltwater floods them entirely, or they’ll slowly drift away and apart, lost to the vast, vacant sea. He can only hope there’s a lifeboat on deck somewhere.

He doesn’t say any of that, though, because it’s not his job to unload the hidden depths of his heart.
“It’ll be fine,” he reassures, holding Pete tighter against his body, against himself. Because that’s his job.

Growing up, Patrick was never the most outgoing and that hasn’t changed at all. Even now, he’s got no problem letting other people take the front; Pete’s the ringleader of this whole circus, not him. Patrick simply wasn’t made from the right kind of stuff to be put under the spotlight. He doesn’t do well when people look too hard. Doesn’t want people to look too hard because there’s a sure fire chance they’ll find something in him that they don’t like. To be fourteen years old, presenting for the first time, and having all his shit laid out in the open for his freshman class to poke around in felt like the ultimate betrayal. And by his own damn body at that.

The way David says I love you never fails to make Patrick melt like ice cream on apple pie. I love you very much, he’ll say plainly, the way one might say it’s raining outside or humans need oxygen. As if it’s just a fact, something Patrick must already know. He says it in the exact same calm tone he says anything, but he never fails to catch Patrick’s eyes before he says it.
