“Not for nothing, gorgeous, but the last time somebody looked at me like that, they bent me over shortly thereafter,” Magnus flirted, unable to stop the words even if he’d wanted to.
Beautiful cerulean eyes shot up and caught on slitted pupils. They dilated—which the young man definitely noticed. Nobody looked at ordinary brown irises and dotted pupils with that level of shock and awe. No matter how perfectly their makeup was done.
This mundane could see his true appearance.
He knew of the Shadow World, yet Magnus has seen neither hide nor hair of him before now. Who are you? Curiosity and excitement stirred in his chest. Cobwebs brushed away as the rusty old cogs in Magnus’s heart moved. It’s been a long time since he was truly interested in someone.
Magnus’s glistening lips spread into a sly smile when the other man’s gaze rapidly flickered down and away and back, giving the impression he was flustered. Maybe tonight won’t be so bad after all.

Still blindly following Clave orders, Alec infuriates Magnus and gets kicked out of the loft. Magnus nurses his emotional wounds and Dot shows up. Lots of vodka, emotional upheaval, and recently compromised state with Azazael lead the doorway open for an unwelcome visit from one of Magnus's many uncles, A Prince of Hell, Greater Demon Sammael -- with a personal agenda against Magnus and everything he holds dear. Alec unwittingly gets caught in the middle. This doesn't bode well for either of them in the (tumultous) aftermath.

Alec is exhausted. He’s been fighting these demons for the last half hour and they just keep on coming. In a few seconds of rest, he manages to reactivate his stamina rune, but he can feel the angels energy reducing. They were warned in training about depletion. The danger of overusing their runes. But he has no choice. There is no other way out. His back is to the wall of an alley, the demons blocking his exit.
Suddenly, there is a disturbance at the alley entrance. The flash of red, another one, then another. The crowd of demons lessons to just a handful. Alec dare not look up to see who his rescuer is, the two demons closest to him having decided to attack him at the same time. It takes all his concentration and the remains of his energy to slay them.
“Nice work, Shadowhunter.” A sultry voice, full of admiration, sounds close by.

When Alec came back from Alicante, life had seemed to finally be looking up for him. No longer "Acting" Head of the Institute, all of his hard work had finally paid off. He was the youngest official, fully-vested Institute Head in the past 150 years. Something he'd worked damn hard to achieve.
So of course he should've expected for something to happen to change that.
With the introduction of Clary Fray into their lives, and all the chaos she brought with her, Alec came home to an Institute in upheaval. Unsanctioned missions, a search for the Cup, and Valentine's daughter running free. And his very first steps towards trying to fix it all - reaching out to the High Warlock they'd all managed to use for help somehow without paying him - ends with a whole lot more trouble than Clary could've ever brought him.
Alec goes on a journey that starts with pain and ends with a strange bond he never wanted, a husband he never thought he could have, and the chance to finally affect some real changes in the Shadow World.
That is, if they can all survive long enough to see it happen.
