Eventually, he let out a small ‘ah-ha!’ and snatched up his glasses from where they must have fallen. They looked a little lopsided, likely damaged from one of the falls, but they covered his eyes well enough.
“Edwin Payne, detective,” he said with a rather haughty air. “And you were about to kill my client.”
XWarlock detective, Edwin Payne, has every reason to not trust Shadowhunters. But that won't stop Shadowhunter, Charles Rowland, from trying his best to win him over.
Between missing girls, demons, and a few targeted attacks, it's only a matter of time before these two idiots fall in love. If they survive, of course.

Summary
The hawk was a Shadowhunter.
Nephilim may have a disgust for warlock animal marks and the ‘savage’ werewolves ability to shift, but their own ability to shift into birds was seen as a gift from the Angel. Their ability to fly seen as a link with the divine.
Magnus wished more than anything that his suspicions were wrong, that it was just a normal bird, but he doubted he had that much luck. He never did with Shadowhunters.
Or
Magnus finds a captured Shadowhunter, stuck in their bird form, and decides to help out until they can be freed. Winning their trust would be helpful, otherwise the repercussions of keeping them until then could be dire.

Unsanctioned missions, a search for the Cup, and Valentine's daughter running free. And his very first steps towards trying to fix it all - reaching out to the High Warlock they'd all managed to use for help somehow without paying him - ends with a whole lot more trouble than Clary could've ever brought him.
Alec goes on a journey that starts with pain and ends with a strange bond he never wanted, a husband he never thought he could have, and the chance to finally affect some real changes in the Shadow World.
That is, if they can all survive long enough to see it happen.

They won't be the same, not ever again, but maybe with the help of someone he'd convinced himself he could never have, he can take what was done to him and make it into something even better. Something that, for the first time in his life, he can be proud of.
