Summary
Werner Pfennig is stripped from his life and arrives at Saint-Malo as an spy for the Nazi Secret Service, the SD, to track down illegal activity from the Breton Resistance, who operates constantly around and inside the walled city. Upon entering, he meets the Whelk, Marie-Laure LeBlanc, a woman who works undercover for the SOE broadcasting illegal information to main radio operators in all France, and who no one happens to know absolutely nothing about, as if she were made from thin air.
As the war approaches, Werner promises himself that he will keep her alive, no matter what.
