Kyoshi didn’t know many things despite her a few years of being an avatar, but she knew three things to be certain.
The first was that, even when faced with mortal danger, humans were unpredictable when it came to their choices in being selfish versus being selfless. The people you would expect to be selfish were often the ones kneeling on the ground helping get the injured to get to high ground. The people you would think would be selfless were often the ones secretly causing the pain and sorrow that the avatar had to undo.
The second was that her choice to remain alive and youthful as long as possible came at a certain price. Sure, it meant she could spend more than a few lifetimes side by side with the woman that she loved, but she knew that it also meant the “avatar exhaustion” she felt after a long war would never quite go away. Peace was a long game, and coming home at the end of the day to get a good night’s rest was never quite enough. Although it had only been around thirty years since she’d begun, her friends were still getting older, while she wasn’t.
The third was that her wife was going to kill her.
