The Empire needs children. Wrong, the First Order needs children. Wrong again, it needed children 20 years ago. It now needs young adults with talent. The time for children has passed, their need for fresh leadership throughout the First Order is immediate. Grand Admiral Rae Sloane is growing desperate to fill that need with intelligent recruits when General Brendol Hux goes missing on a backwater planet in the Unknown Regions during a recruitment mission for his Stormtrooper program. An opportunity has conveniently fallen into Sloane’s lap in the form of a young woman named Neera. Her ties to Brendol Hux’s mysterious Project Necromancer have piqued Sloane’s interest, and she sends a young Captain Armitage Hux to Borleias to respond to Neera’s comm for help and investigate what use she might be to the First Order.
Neera herself is desperate to help free her dying home world of Borleias. The New Republic’s neglect has left her people hungry and their world polluted following the shut down of the large Aldaraan Biotics facility. Abandoned experiments have taken over the planet over the years, and Neera has decided to turn to the remaining Imperial forces that her uncle Olphen had told her about as a child for help.
