    Mr. Wayne waits until after Tim and Dick have finished their meal, and Jason is near completing his second helping, to make his announcement. “So, Timmy, how would you feel about having your own bedroom here in the Manor?” Somehow the alpha never fails to catch Tim off guard. “There’s no rush. We can take our time to get your room as comfortable as we can, I just want you to have your own space here.”

    Oh. Tim gets it now. He’s a little slow, but he’s finally comprehending.

    Maybe the Waynes didn’t have a discipline room before, but they’re about to make one. A whole room just to punish him in. Daddy would be so proud.

    Bruce’s brain takes a moment to reboot. “Your parents are in South America?”

    “Yes.” 

    He’s not sure why he’s so surprised – the Drakes are known for their work in archeology, and not much of that can be done locally. Still, he assumed that they took Timothy with them when they left the country for work. It seems a shame to leave him with a nanny this close to Christmas. 

    “Okay,” he says, erasing the numbers typed into his phone. “What’s your nanny’s number, then?”

    “My what?” Timothy looks scandalized. 

    “Your babysitter? Whoever is in charge of you while your parents are gone,” he clarifies. 

    “I’m in charge of me when my parents are gone,” Timothy says proudly, his little chest puffing out. “I’m the Man of the House.”

    Tim gets to spend Christmas with the Waynes! This will not have lasting consequences, I'm sure.

    Bookmarker's Notes

    When he’s drying Tim’s hair that night, Bruce asks him, “Did you have a good day?”

    Tim’s enthusiastic nod pulls his hair right out of the towel, his hands pausing where they were working on a puzzle as he chirps, “The best day!”

    And then he stands up, turns around, and throws his arms around Bruce’s neck.

    Bruce freezes for a split second. This is the first time Tim’s ever initiated a hug with him, and it feels both momentous and fragile. He brings his arms up and carefully enfolds Tim in them, squeezing him tighter when he doesn’t protest or move away. The smell of Damian’s baby shampoo lingers in his nose, and Tim is warm against his chest, his little nose pressed against the skin of Bruce’s jaw. Bruce tries to engrave the moment in his memory.

    “We’ve been so happy having you here, Tim,” he murmurs into the boy’s damp hair, voice just a tad hoarse.

    “I’ve been happy too,” Tim says into his neck.

    Jason took in a deep breath. And let go of that idea. He would not give up on Gotham. His faith in Batman was gone, but Jason’s sheer grit and stubbornness had existed long before he ever met Bruce Fucking Wayne. Jason was a Crime Alley brat, and he would not quit just because his adoptive father turned out to be a manipulative asshole.

    Weren’t they all.
