Summary

One day he sees Bugs bonding with another male rabbit on the living room couch and becomes jealous. He demands Porky take him out to a gay bar, hoping to find a replacement for Bugs, but all roads lead back to his rival and best friend in the end.

Hell actually came two years later, when they dragged Will’s body out of the quarry. When Lonnie came home. When his mother sat him down like he was three years old again and said, smiling tightly, I’m going to have a baby.
Benjamin, the magnificent life-fixing-grief-resolving-replacement-baby, was born nine months later.

The air is too clean in hell.
Silco breathes laboriously, pulling in a lungful of air through his nose, exhaling out of his mouth, at a slower pace than any living man would. The air on his tongue tastes thin, like the atmosphere from high up in the mountains. So unlike the gritty thickness of the undercity or even the saltwater breeze of Piltover. There are no scents here, no traces of pheromones to suggest an inhabited area. It’s pure. Untouched by humanity.

Summary
How do you pick up the threads of an old life after losing everything you lived for? Vander grapples with grief and parenthood, being the rock everyone else needs while no one is there to save him from his ghosts. If you’re too tired to think, then you’re too tired to grieve. If he mends his community maybe that hole in his heart will start to fill. That is, if his guilt will let him rest.
