Hitoshi is still pretty overwhelmed with his new-ish life. It's absolutely insane that Aizawa and Yamada took him in and it's even more insane that he made it into the hero course. That Aizawa would see potential in him and think he could be a hero and then fight tooth and nail to make it happen.
Not that Hitoshi sat back and let Aizawa fight his fights, but, you know. It's pretty damn insane.
And as if that wasn't enough, Hitoshi also somehow managed to bag the absolute best boyfriend in Bakugo Katsuki.
Really, all in all his life is fucking amazing.
And it would be even better if Katsuki wasn't so obviously unwilling to touch him.

Katsuki likes Hitoshi. Loves him, even. That it not at all the problem.
The problem is that they are going public with their relationship. That is a big fucking problem and it has everything to do with Katsuki.
He knows what everyone—including his friends—thinks: too angry, too self-centred, too selfish, too hard and definitely not a person who could love anyone else.
It doesn't matter that Katsuki loves his friends so much that he fears it might kill him someday; it doesn't matter that he loves Hitoshi so much it takes his breath away every goddamn time the purple idiot smiles at him.
It doesn't matter that Katsuki can be his own brand of soft with Hitoshi because it will never, ever fit the socially accepted standard and therefore, Katsuki will always fall flat, no matter how hard he tries.

"What?" Katsuki breathes out because he hasn't been micro-managing Hitoshi at all.
He makes suggestions—ones that Hitoshi ignores all the damn time and then proceeds to do what he wants instead of listening to Katsuki.
"You heard me. I'm sick and tired of you telling me what to do," Hitoshi says, turning away from Katsuki and walking towards the hallway of their apartment.
"Well, and I'm sick and tired of you not even listening to my suggestions, you dumbass. You keep outright ignoring everything I say and now you have the audacity to say this?" Katsuki shoots back and he doesn't even know what they are fighting about anymore, doesn't know where this is coming from because things were good.
Things have been good between them and now this is hitting Katsuki out of nowhere. He didn't even know he was mad about this, didn't know until Hitoshi accused him of doing something he is not doing and Hitoshi's eyes blaze with anger.

Hitoshi is done. He can't do this anymore. Training with Aizawa is great, it's given him a purpose he previously lacked in his life, gave him hope where there was nothing but Hitoshi is hurting all over, most of his body mottled black and blue and if this is the price he has to pay for becoming a hero, then Hitoshi is not willing to pay it.
He can't pay it, can't do this over and over again, but Aizawa won't stop demanding they practice hand-to-hand and Hitoshi can't afford to fuck up at home again.

Hitoshi mechanically gets ready, his thoughts distant and fluffy and he doesn't bother to make them more present or to bring them into any kind of order. It doesn't matter. Nothing matters, really, and for a split second he thinks about simply going back to bed, punishment and pain be damned, but again—Aizawa’s face flits through his head and Hitoshi pushes on.
Aizawa is the one adult who hasn't hurt Hitoshi yet, the one adult who seems to have reachable expectations for him, the one adult who laid out clear, concise rules and then stuck to them and just thinking about disappointing him makes Hitoshi sick.
So he goes on, until everything is prepared and then he sits at the edge of his bed and waits for his foster mother.
She comes into the room eight minutes later, the by now so familiar and equally hated casket in her hands and Hitoshi goes cold all over.
