Summary
Dean and Cas find themselves in St Louis, investigating a series of attacks. As they dig deeper, the duo soon find themselves dealing with conflicting witnesses and evidence. Realizing they're hunting a shapeshifter, the pair have no choice but to descend into the sewers.
Regaining consciousness after being attacked, Dean finds himself trying to track down Cas.
Surely a shapeshifter is no match for an angel.

“It frustrates me,” Cas mutters, “how the same sensation can feel sometimes good, and sometimes not.”
Dean’s hand is still rubbing slowly down the length of his spine, like he’s petting the valley between the wings he can’t see. “Well, that’s just par for the course,” Dean rumbles. “Sometimes a body wants touch and sometimes it wants to be left the fuck alone.”
Cas always wants touch. At least from Dean. He doesn’t say so. “It frustrates me how much good and bad I can feel at the same time.”
“Oh, buddy,” Dean says. “Yeah.”
(After the perfect darkness of the Empty, Cas finds the world a little...overwhelming. Dean tries to help.)

Something in Bodie, California is luring truckers to their deaths and Dean’s on his way to take it out. It’s the first time Bobby’s given him a case and, with Sam at Stanford and his dad off chasing demons, he's finally hunting monsters on his own. When an accidental encounter puts an as-of-yet-unknown monster in the passenger seat of his car, Dean decides to ice him, taking his dad's old adage to heart: a monster is always a monster. Unfortunately, Dean can’t seem to figure out what kind of monster "Castiel" is and he certainly can’t shake him.
