Summary
Mr. Diaz’s eyes are so infuriatingly brown, a roasted chestnut that feels lodged in Buck's throat. In certain flickers of the candlelight, they appear hazel. Another flicker, another color. Caramel, then gold. Buck doesn’t think he’s seen eyes like his before.
“So, what do you recommend? I mean, to encourage affection,” Mr. Diaz hastily elaborates, his eyes briefly shooting over towards Mr. Han before returning to Buck, almost as if he's been caught doing something he shouldn't.
With a grin so wide his cheeks nearly hurt, Buck answers pleasantly, almost saccharinely. “Dancing. Even if one’s partner is barely tolerable.”
A flash bolts across Mr. Diaz’s face, as the recognition of his own words repeated back to him lands with a satisfying crash, his mouth parting slightly as his shoulders drop, like all air escapes him, all because of Buck.
***
It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single father in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of partner.

Summary
Buck is staring at his ceiling, flickering city lights breathing through the window above his bed. He's been crying a lot lately. Over wet dishes, over sunlight hitting his furniture at pretty angles, over nothing at all. It’s how it always starts.
He gets emotional; then he gets numb. He never manages to settle on which one is worse.
This is the part where Buck realises, quite matter-of-factly, that he’s probably going to try to kill himself.
Or: Buck keeps it together until he can't. Luckily, he's got Eddie—and he'll be damned if he lets his best friend slip through the cracks. It takes two.

Summary
Think, Buckley, think, he scolded himself, trying to focus on figuring out what was wrong. Dizziness, headache, shortness of breath, chesty coughing, exhaustion. Someone had to know what was wrong. He glanced around but his vision was fuzzy, so he slowly grasped about for his phone until he was able to grab it from where he’d dropped it. Through blurry eyes he fumbled to unlock his phone and struggled to find his contacts. Eddie would know. Or Bobby. They’d know why Buck felt like he was drowning.
…Drowning.
Drowning.
He was drowning.-----
After the tsunami, Buck goes home alone when he shouldn't have and he starts to suffer from secondary drowning, an excess of water in the lungs. He stops breathing before Eddie finds him. Will he make it out unscathed?

Summary
The thing was, the 118 was full of gossips.
Eddie had been at the station less than a week before Hen and Chim wrangled details about his “hot young thing” from him (“Buck is only 4 years younger than me, he is not a ‘hot young thing’!” Eddie complained.)
And Bobby was open about his worries for his son’s lack of direction and the secrets he appears to be keeping (“I just wish I could help Evan find the thing that gives him purpose,” Bobby lamented.)
It just made it all the more ridiculous (and horrifying) when Eddie realizes he’s been dating his Captain’s son this whole time (“Defiling his baby,” Chimney cackled, because he clearly wanted Eddie murdered.)
--
Or, the AU where miscommunication abounds as Eddie seeks advice about his new relationship, Bobby despairs over his adopted son's career prospects and his refusal to talk about it, and Evan Buckley-Nash juggles training at the fire academy, building a family with his new boyfriend, and trying to work out how to tell his overprotective dad that he's already chosen the life he wants, actually.
It takes a goddamn tsunami, of all things, to get the story straight.Series
