That one word. His childhood nickname that stuck. One he hadn’t heard in five years. The voice he hadn’t heard in five years. He felt like his entire body locked up. His fists balled up, and he could feel his nails digging into his palms. His eyes were wide, and he was staring, though his brain wasn’t quite processing.
“Kacchan, you’re hurting yourself, no need to do that.” He felt large –large, warm, safe– hands wrap around his, peeling his fingers from the fist they curled into.

The one mistake Bruce made was finding a kid with parents, so he couldn’t adopt him. He found someone who wasn’t an orphan, and it was what gave Jason the perfect opening. He’d been watching, stalking Tim for weeks now, pretty much since he’d first gotten back to Gotham. The boy lived with his parents, though they were gone often on business trips. He seemed fine, and happy without them being home, which had only confused and angered Jason more. Who likes when their parents aren’t around? Does he even know how much Jason begged for Willis and Catherine to be present and around?

He slammed on the breaks, pulling over on the side of the highway. He yanked his helmet off, and opened the door just in time to throw up right outside his door. He couldn’t imagine the pain, the humiliation. Oh God. The one mistake Bruce made was finding a kid with parents, so he couldn’t adopt him.

Tim bared his teeth and lunged, but Hood sent him to the ground with a shove at the right moment. Tim tried to get back up, but there was a boot on his back, holding him in place just as well as the kris suddenly pressing against the back of his neck.
“Now, now, Replacement. You should play nicer with your new tutor. I’m gonna let you up, nice and slow, and show you some things. You’ll thank me later.”
“You know,” he murmured, blinking up at Jason, “I never did get to show you the grade for my essay.”
Jason decides he'll do his Replacement a favor - a painful one - and teach him what a Robin should know. (The one time Jason was found.)
