After Stanley is kicked out of the house, Ford still has five months of school left before he graduates. Five months he has to grapple with abruptly being an individual where he once was a whole. It's freeing, enlightening, refreshingly new.
It hurts like a punch to the gut and a breath he just can't seem to take. He can't stop the stares that come his way, the concern on his mother's face, and his father's complete apathy. He can't stop his own mind from missing what he knows he should hate.

Taako didn't have much in his life, but he could always count on Lup. When he roughed it, they roughed it together. Through thick and thin, highs and lows, whatever else the fuck you wanted to call it. Sparing any further poetics, Taako knew he could rely on Lup, that he'd always have at least one other person in his court.
What they had was predestined, stuck together from the womb. Their bonds were as clear as the angle of their ears, the tilt of their eyes, the height of their cheekbones. Anyone could see how close they were from a glance; it took most people a lot more than a glance to even tell them apart.
Admittedly, Taako and Lup often used and abused that system. No one could blame them for having a little fun.

There wasn’t much he could say to that. He had never thought of himself as a healer, per se. The term felt far too altruistic for him. But he could see where Mofu was coming from. You don’t repeatedly throw yourself at cliffs, sharp objects, or chilly rivers to stop a murderer from killing themself without acknowledging that you might value other’s safety over everything else.
She looked him in the eyes. “There are only two ways you can alleviate the side effects: either get Komanohashi to stop taking the medication-”
Toto seriously doubted he could get Ron to do that, as much as he wanted to. With each new episode, he liked the medication less and less. But Ron was possibly the most stubborn man he had ever known. And he was insistent on taking those pills, more determined with each new dose.
“Or, just be there for him.”
...
The side effects from Ron's medication only seem to be getting worse, and Toto is desperate to get him help.
