Don and Kathy would move in together. They would have a dog or two and then inevitably, a small parade of adorable little brats who would call him Uncle Cosmo, and they would spend less and less time with him, not on purpose but busy with the rest of their lives, and ultimately Cosmo would learn to make his peace with it because he’d have no other choice and he would have to try to move on and not live too much in his memories. He could picture it so clearly, he figured if the songwriting gig with Monumental didn’t pan out, he could always return to the backwater circuit with a new act: The Amazing Cosmo of the Cosmos—ladies and gentlemen, he sees the future, he reads the stars, he silently pines for his best married pal and all the while tap dancing!
Don and Kathy inviting him along on their honeymoon, though—that part was a surprise.

It has taken her a month’s worth of learning how to feel something bordering on human, and still she feels wholly undeserving of Selûne’s grace. If she cannot expel the rot within her, then what use is she next to a demigod? It is as though death has done little more than affirm whatever anxieties had swelled within her even before things had gone to utter shit.
Aylin, an untouchable star blazing through the sky; Isobel, who rests six feet below the cold earth. Father always did claim they were galaxies apart from one another. Now, she wonders if he was right all along.

Fingers tighten at her hip bone, and the half-elf’s voice hisses into her ear, husky and hot. “Try not to. There are things I want to do to you that will be far more pleasurable with a physical form.”

“For fuck’s sake, what’s one dead cleric from another?” It’s been a lifetime of slow, sexless minutes since Shadowheart finished her wine. Her thoughts have begun to rouse from their stupor, which she can’t abide. “Fine. Invite the raccoon if you wish. She’s pretty enough, under the charcoal.”

The door swings open just as Shadowheart slams her fist forward to knock again; the apartment’s occupant, a githyanki woman in workout gear, catches Shadowheart’s wrist to avoid being decked in the face. “Whatever you aim to sell me,” the githyanki says testily, “I hold no interest, and I dearly hope whatever two-bit company you shill for files for bankruptcy.”
“Are you being murdered?” Shadowheart says, yanking her wrist free. “Or possibly doing the murdering?”
The githyanki cocks her head. Each of her long ears sports a line of piercings; the little hoops clink together. “Hm. A unique sales strategy. I will listen to your pitch if you speak quickly.”
