Wylan shot up from his chair, not caring to stay any longer. His heart felt like it was going to explode, and he didn’t need Nina to tell him that. Grabbing his bag, Wylan basically ran out of the door, not looking back as it swung closed behind him. He heard it open right after however, and he wasn’t surprised to see Jesper had followed him out.
Letting out a breath, Wylan ran his hands through his mussed up hair, making it spike up from his scalp even more with the motion.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Jesper sounded heartbroken, and Wylan couldn’t meet his eyes. His warm, brown eyes, that would stare back into his and make him want to melt where he stood.
“Why would I?”

They were on a job, just like any other, honestly. And for once, it was going off splendidly, no hiccups in sight. That was, until it ended up in a shootout in the backstreets of Ketterdam.
Oh. That’s not good, he thought, seeing the blossom of crimson red over his stomach. He didn’t even realize he had been shot. And with the smoke and running, no one else had even given him a second glance to see if he was okay. Everyone had just assumed they were all okay, just like Wylan did with them.
Except, he wasn’t okay. The blood was spreading, seeping down his button up shirt. He had really liked that shirt too. His hands went to the wound subconsciously, almost immediately becoming soaked in blood.

He was drowning. He was choking. There was darkness all around him, and hands on his throat, squeezing and not letting go. He fought against it as hard as he could, squirming and grabbing at the hands on him.
As his eyes cleared, his brain finally realized that the figure was no threat, but instead, his boyfriend, Jesper. Wylan’s breath was still shaky and hard, like he was trying to gasp in the air around him.
“Hey, hey. Deep breaths now, watch me,” Jesper didn’t touch him, instead just settled in front of Wylan, legs crossed under his lanky and shirtless frame. Wylan watched him place a hand on his own chest, the hand moving up and down as the boy breathed slowly and deeply.

Wylan swore quietly under his breath as he heard the front door downstairs being kicked open. He had manhandled the couch in front of it anyways, but that really would only help against the dead, they weren’t strong enough, unless there was a whole herd pressing on the door.
Staggering to his feet, still facing the house, Wylan heard the distinct click of a gun being cocked.
Of course someone stayed outside.“Don’t move,” the voice said, low and raspy. Or I’ll shoot you, which was a given although unsaid. Wylan just sighed, lifting his hands slowly in surrender. He wasn’t an incredibly fast runner, and either way, they would be able to shoot him before he got two steps down the road.

Jesper woke with a start, sweat beading down his forehead from where he was curled around Wylan’s back. It was just starting to rain outside, the wind howling and rattling the window panes. He pulled himself away gently, trying not to disturb the sleeping prince next to him. He must not have made any noise when waking, because Wylan was still fast asleep.
Sniffling, Jesper crawled out of bed and folded himself up on the wide window sill, arms wrapping around his knees. He was a bit chilly like this, with just sleeping pants on and no shirt, but he couldn’t just go back to sleep after that.
His mind was racing, tumbling over itself as dozens of thoughts overlapped and shouted and screamed inside his mind.
You aren’t enough, Jesper.
You’re too much, Jesper.

“Oh, Nina, do you have a hair tie?” Wylan looked over at her, because if anyone had a hair tie, it would be her. Nina smiled and pulled one off of her wrist, and Wylan went about trying to tie up his curls. They had grown a bit long over the summer, just starting to brush his shoulders. He didn’t put them up often, so it became a tricky thing to do when he didn’t have a mirror to look into like he usually did when he tied them up.
“Here, let me,” Jesper noticed his struggle and lightly took the hair tie from his fingers, looping it over his wrist as he came to stand behind Wylan. Wylan stood still as they waited behind the small line of other fastpass-goers, the rest of their friends talking quietly and half-watching Jesper tie up his boyfriend’s hair. Jesper combed his fingers through his red curls, pulling the top half of it back from hanging in his face. Wylan shifted on his feet a bit as Jesper’s fingertips scratched at his scalp a bit as he combed through his hair, and Jesper smirked a bit from behind him.

“Wha–?” Jesper blinked up from his papers, thoroughly taken aback. It had just been a normal morning, of him sipping his sweet coffee and eating a cinnamon muffin and reading the mail to Wylan. The breeze in the air was light, ruffling the flowers and making the curls on Wylan’s forehead move. He had to keep himself from staring, else he would never actually finish that morning’s reading. He had been in the middle of a sentence, reading about Third Harbor, when Wylan had interrupted him to say those words.
“I love you,” Wylan repeated, chewing on his bottom lip a bit.
