With nowhere else to call home, you reluctantly agree to stay in the New Avengers tower, only to find out it won't be that simple. It turns out that of all the people on the team, you and Bucky's reputations are the ones hardest for the public to swallow, so Valentina hires an image consultant that tells you that you and Bucky will be roommates and she'll schedule an interview with a major magazine to "soften up" you and Bucky's image and make you more palatable to the rest of the world. You'll have one hell of a time learning how to cohabitate with the grumpy Avenger, especially since you're trying to suppress your crush on him as desperately as you can, but maybe there's a silver lining to this situation after all. Post Thunderbolts, but pre-Fantastic Four Bucky/Reader ficlet.

The chandelier’s candles start to go out one by one, coiling up the multi-ringed marvel in the room's center, with black smoke rising to collect in the center of the ceiling. The grey haze combined into a cloud, about one-third of the room is covered in the pitch black haze.
This would normally be impossible, there may be a lot of candles on the chandelier but not enough for a cloud that large. Except that this wasn’t a normal night, and this isn’t a normal group.
The show is about to start, it’s time for the indoctrination to commence. The curtains rise as we take our places, two red cloaks to my left and Corvid to my right. When I looked up at the wood stage, merely feet away, legs could be seen in the gap between the stage and the raising black curtain...
Warning: I wrote this in a way that is very hard to follow! It has multiple perspective, but the protagonist Anton narrates himself in the second person. This makes him an unreliable narrator when it comes to what he divulges and when, sometimes even withholding information from readers.

It’s inspired by the neo-gothic vibes of Lovecraft and Lukyanenko, and in terms of narration sometimes echoes Milton, Poe, Clark Ashton Smith, Anne Rice, and Clive Barker: pseudo-archaic language, body horror, psychological abuse, and religious motifs woven into a single story of dependence and cult.
