Her loyalty to John was always ingrained in his power, even going so far as to scorn Zirian in the end…but one week after John’s expulsion from New Bostin, she was expelled herself. After facing the same readjustment classes John did, she hasn’t emerged unchanged…and not in the way that the authorities would want.
The latest in my series of unOrdinary AUs! “Double Negative” worldbuilding is canon here, but you don’t need to read that story to read this one. This is just a fun idea I had for a story.

Arlo's always had a soft spot for his cousin, John. He admires how, despite repeated tragedies including the death of his parents and losing the ability to both speak and walk to a degenerative illness, John never gives up on being a good person and an even better friend. Aunt Val is such a saint for taking him in.
Other people, however, sense that something is off. Seraphina, after meeting him once, is convinced that John is a high-tier. NXGen employees feel uneasy about the way their boss treats their youngest test subject. And John? Well, he finds himself flip-flopping between accepting that he's doomed to die alone in a cage and thinking up wild plans of escape and revenge.
Everyone knows they can't take on the Authorities. But maybe, if enough people can find their voices, they can save a life. -
