Massive machines capable of heating large areas to livable temperatures if they were magically maintained and given enough alchemical fire and coal to burn. Now came the herculean task to get whatever people could be saved through the treacherous icy wastelands to the generators.
And still Nilfgaard marshals it's forces to war.

Having an annoying roommate with no filter, and being a hardworking student.. Doesn't mix in Starks favor. That's until Loki swaps dorms with someone, leading him into a less rambunctious room and into a more relaxed environment. Meeting the newly let in (famous) Steve Rogers, leaves Stark questioning "Can We Be Friends?"
Steve Rogers - recently sent the acceptance letter, is welcomed into Avengers Academy (one of a kind academy). Rooming with Thor (the god of thunder) allows Steve to get used to his surroundings (since Thor isn't a huge talker), bumping into (and eventually staying with) Tony Stark - popular at the academy. Someone Steve usually wouldn't pleasure himself in being friends with. But Stark was definitely a lot different, and a lot brighter than the other students he met.

"Alfred?" Tim trudges down the stairs, still dizzy with fever.
It started after he got back from WE. He had felt off the entire day. Then, on patrol, he nearly fell off the roof when his vision began to swim.
Bruce got pissed and told him to go home and put himself to bed. He would be back later that night.
"Bruce?" Tim called out, his voice echoing off the empty halls. "Dick? Damian?"
Tim swallows and limps down the stairs, clinging to the railing to keep himself from tumbling down and snapping his neck.
"Jason?" Tim's throat is dry, and he looks around. There is a headache thundering behind his eyes, and he's beginning to shiver. He can't stand up anymore.
Bruce's heart falls to his stomach when he sees Tim at the bottom of the stairs, practically drowning in a pool of tears and spit.

Bruce is a mess when Tim first shows up. He's ruthless and relentless. Certainly not the Batman that Tim knows. So, Tim decides to step in. He'll become Robin. He won't replace Jason. That's something he knows he'll never be able to do. But he'll fulfill the need for a Robin.
Tim knows he's nothing more than a placeholder. Still, he wishes that Batman would accept him. He wishes Bruce would accept him. He can dream. He does dream. But he always wakes up. And he wakes up to a Batman that wants his son back.
Or: Tim fulfills the need for a Robin and takes the brunt of Batman at his worse. Later down the line, Bruce wonders if he'll ever be able to fix the damage he's done to Timothy Drake.
