“Oh, I mean yeah,” Will shrugs casually. Lucas and Dustin nod, equally as casual, like this isn’t something absolutely insane.
Mike, however, is not casual about this. He goes slack-jawed, and his cheeks burn with more juvenile shame. “What- Will?” Mike stammers, eyebrows raising more than what should be physically possible. His voice squeaks, “When?”
“Well, a few times back in Lenora,” Will recalls as he brings out his hand to count, “The first time was when this girl was trying to flirt with me and she invited me to this halloween party, and then there was this guy from my English who invited me to his house with a couple of his friends, and then there was our art club’s celebration after our exhibit went well, I also can’t forget about the winter dance afterparty where-”
OR: During the 18-month gap, the OG party gets together to enjoy the normal teenage experience of playing board games and drinking cheap beer. Except Mike has never drunk before. And he’s not about to make a fool of himself, especially not in front of the newly cool William Byers.

“Will?”
Will stops and turns meeting Mikes eyes, does he ever just be quiet? No. He hasn’t for as long as Will can remember.
“Yeah?”
“Thanks.. by the way.” He starts, smiling softly as he moves his hair out of his face.
Wills brows furrow a bit, confused. His mind is blank, as if he forgot what the past 38 minutes have been. “For what?”
Mikes gaze softens as he looks down at his bandaged hand, “This— you really helped, you know?” He gestures.
Will nods, “It’s nothing. I’m just glad you’re okay.” He reassures, a small smirk tugging at the corners of his mouth.
Will finally leaves the room, all of the tension and whatever that was is all left in that room. He feels uneasy, uncomfortable, uncertain about tonight. If the feelings between them were mutual, if they were both in love with each other, or maybe he’s reading it all wrong. And if he’s reading it wrong, he thinks he just might die.
He can only hope as he walks out of the room that he won’t screw tonight up, and make everything a disaster.
Or; Mike throws a party and accidentally cuts himself, and Will has to help him.

Summary
Will Byers wakes up with a hickey after sneaking out to a party with Mike Wheeler. Mrs. Wheeler has a conversation with Mike about sneaking out to parties and only makes his jealousy worse as his mother also comes to the conclusion that a girl from that party gave Will a hickey.
Or Mike doesn't remember he did give Will that hickey while he was drunk and instantly tries to hide his jealousy!

Will smiled—well, he tried to with his cheeks all together. He grabbed one of Mike's hands from his face, pulled it back slightly, and locked their fingers together. He looked up at Mike earnestly, and their eyes connected.

Mike’s hands were pulling him in before he even had time to process the whole interaction, and somewhere, deep, buried by shame and hurt and fucking hearbreak, 15-year-old Will is standing in an airport, holding a freshly painted picture, about to see his best friend for the first time in a year, and the two Wills merge, and something clanks and clicks and heals, and Will closes his eyes and breathes in shakily, nostrils attacked by the scent of the man in his arms. His fingers dig into Mike’s shirt, a little desperately, more than a bit pathetically.

“You probably shouldn’t,” Mike answers honestly, even though he wants to know everything no matter what it is about the boy in front of him, “I think you're already going to hate yourself for this tomorrow.”
Will blinks a few times, confused. He shakes his head and smiles, leaning closer and in his drunk attempt of a whisper, ends up talking normally and says, "I really, really like your stupid face, Mike."
Mike pauses, clearly not having expected that.
“Shh,” Will shouts abruptly, startling the people around them, clumsily trying to place his finger on Mike's lips and poking him in the eye instead. “You can’t tell Mike, it’s a secret.”
Mike squints at the sudden pain but he’s too distracted by Will’s confession to care.
“I am Mike,” he trails off slowly.
“Oh,” Will frowns before nodding, “sorry."

“Dance with me,” Mike says softly.
“Are you—”
“Yes,” Mike interrupts, just as Will starts to protest, about how they don’t have to if he’s not comfortable. “I want to, if you want it too,” he adds.
Will smiles so wide it makes his cheeks ache for a moment. He rises from his seat, and in that instant, all the worries and nervousness from earlier dissolve. Everything heavy, everything bad, fades the second Mike’s hand is holding his.

The last thing he remembers is arriving, and going straight for the drinks. Might have been a bad choice on his end. To his surprise, he feels rustling in the bed next to him. Will whips his head behind him to see a head of raven hair. His eyes widen as he tries his hardest to remembers last night’s events, and WHY his former best friend is in his bed even though they haven’t spoken in a year.

"No, it's fine—God—Don't apologise, you're the only one treating me like a normal human being!" Will punches his shoulder playfully.He pauses, retracting his arm and bringing it to fidget with his other hand, looking down at them like he wants to say something else.
"I just wish... I could be more at ease around them. The more they treat me like a kid, the more I feel like I need to act like one."
He looks back up at Mike, biting his lip as if debating adding to that statement. Mike gives an encouraging smile."I wish I could be more like you."

Will byers gets drunk
Inspired by 'Crack baby' by Mitski (hence the title)'"Why'd you get drunk then?" Will's mind wanders to why, but he can't place one reason. 'I have to live through an apocalypse at 16' 'I'm in love with my best friend' 'I have this annoying demon like presence always watching me'. What is he supposed to say... then it clicks, the perfect way to describe it. He sits up higher and moves in closer to Mike, who's turned his worried expression into a slightly scared one.
Will starts speaking theatrically, his eyes wide. “It's like… I had something so bright in the palm of my hand”, he leans in closer to Mike whose eyes drop down to Will's lower face.
"Then it just... disappeared" Mike’s Adam apple bobs in his throat (which Will’s eyes follow) as he blinks his dry eyes glossy. “And I've spent my whole life searching for it, just slightly out of my reach”.'
