"Mike scooted a little closer and patted him on the back, then left his hand there, even after Will had recovered. They were close now, so close that Will could see the tooth marks embedded from where Mike had been worrying his lips. It was a nervous habit that he’d had since they were kids. Not that Will’s gaze was lingering on Mike’s lips or anything. He was just looking like, a normal, friendly amount.
'Will.'
'Yeah?' Will breathed.
'Can I kiss you?'

Summary
The men and their forgotten guns are unaffected around him, and Mike’s vision isn’t the clearest; all he can see is the vague, lit shapes of moving fire surrounding the one body he does know to be Will’s. They are dead, and Mike is anything but unaffected.
Something monumental shifts–Mike can feel it. He hasn’t been completely honest with everyone. He’d only been able to admit the fact that he was scared to his little sister, and he was only then beginning to admit to himself that that fear was transforming him into something resembling a hopeless Mike Wheeler. The feelings only seemed to create a more determined version of himself, similarly to his headstrong, gun-slinging older sister. She’d always been stubborn, but all of this had turned her into that person. It seemed that The Stubborn Wheeler Genes were strong, but the Repressive Wheeler Genes were stronger. Maybe this distinction has always been everything, but he doesn’t know, and he won't begin to know, because all he’s able to recognize in this moment is that this version of Will Byers is the most breathtaking thing he’d ever seen.

Mike's eye twitches at the audacity, "Christmas sucks, its the worst holiday by far. You spend months stressing out trying to find gifts for people that range from meaningless trinkets to expensive nonsense. I, at the very least, spend at least a month at my mom's beck and call, constantly cleaning, and wasting at least four days of my life every year unpacking and then repacking shitty decorations into even shittier styrofoam, half of which we don't even USE. And to top it all off we have to dress up and host a bunch of annoying relatives."
"Well, I guess you don't have to worry about that last bit this year." Dustin mutters.
"That is true, thank you Dustin, I feel a so much better about the inevitability of Christmas now!"
After a beat Will murmurs, "I think I really like Christmas."
Mike almost runs his bike off the road as Lucas laughs.
