Today was March 22.
It was Will Byers’s birthday.Hopper and his mom had left earlier, saying they had things to take care of.
Lucas, Mike, Jane, and Max were out—apparently on a double date.
Jonathan was somewhere with Nancy.
Robin was with her new girlfriend.
Dustin said he and Steve had plans.But Will was sure—absolutely sure—that everyone was planning something for him.
Because his family had never forgotten. Not once.
Because his closest friends had never missed his birthday, not since they were kids.
Even Steve had never forgotten.Hours passed.
Will stayed on the couch, phone resting in his hand, waiting for a message.
Waiting for a call.
Waiting for the front door to burst open, for someone to yell surprise,
or for someone to text him to come outside.Nothing.
Still nothing.
Eventually, Will fell asleep.

Max almost scoffed. To think, she had been feeling sorry for this asshole a few seconds before, and now he was using his supposed best friends traumatic experience to cover for the fact he clearly had a secret girlfriend and was preparing for a date with her.
“Wheeler, you don’t need to lie about Will this much, you know” she told him bluntly, “If you’re too immature to admit you have a girlfriend, I feel sorry for you. And her. And Will, actually, because he doesn’t deserve to have a best friend like you.”
To her surprise, instead of firing back with a snarky retort, Mike merely took a deep breath before looking her directly in the eyes with a level of intensity she had never seen from him before. It almost made her flinch. He walked behind her and opened the front door.
“I would never lie when it comes to Will” he said quietly and coldly.

Summary
The cold winters of 1978 in Hawkins, Indiana brought extremely low temperatures to the residents of the town.

The party all go their separate ways for college, Mike stays behind in Hawkins. Haunted by Eleven's death and ... other things ;)
Mike isolates himself from his friends for over a year before finally deciding to confront the things that keep him up at night.
Mike decides to visit Will at school in Chicago. He doesn't stick to their plans and runs into Will... and Carlton at a club. Needless to say this causes... issues.**The first few chapters are shorter, and mostly backstory to fill in the blanks in between the end of S5 and the beginning of my story!**
This is a byler love story, but it will be angsty and very very slow burn, there will be smut eventually. Your patience will be rewarded! ;)
UPDATE: Thank you all for the love! This story gets pretty dark but at the end of the day this IS a Byler LOVE STORY. These two Will have a happy ending... eventually ;)Series

Hawkins was boring, but watching the busy streets made him miss every ordinary corner of it, his friends, his family.
Back at the NYU dorms, he watched his roommate disappear into another girl’s room. Great.
The room was small but comfortable. Will lay on his bed, put on his headphones, and hit play. Me and Michael by MGMT filled the space.
“Fuck,” he murmured.
William’s last summer in Hawkins had been quite unforgettable. There wasn’t much to do in town, but a special someone made him feel like he was on top of the world, ‘til he was not.
He grabbed his notepad and wrote Fuck Michael Wheeler.
It was going to be a long night.
