Summary
The best friends have worked through a lot over the last year, including the lawsuit, the well collapse, the fighting, and finally the make-up, where Buck and Eddie saw a new light between each other. Something they’ve never seen before now, and the day was normal before all of this happened. Buck and Eddie were finally going to stop fighting their feelings for one another and just be together. No near-death experience or poor decisions in the past were going to change that.
It didn't last long...

Summary
The hysterical laughter stole every coherent thought from Buck and crawled into his bones; his heart thudded and he stared at the doll in disbelief. Then, as suddenly as it had started, the laughter stopped; leaving an eerie silence. Buck stood frozen, his thoughts like thick mud, staring at that stupid doll.
He completely missed the huge hole in the wall above the tub. He missed the shadow standing there, watching him from behind the hole with cold eyes and a malicious smile. -

Summary
Eddie’s just trying to fix his leaky kitchen sink when his sister bursts in waving her phone, yelling about a viral TikTok. What she shows him stops him cold: Buck, on stage, cowboy hat tipped low, singing a heartbreak song.
What follows is a spectacular mix of bad timing, mutual pining, and emotional repression so thick it should come with a warning label. Both men are forced to face the feelings they’ve been pretending don’t exist—Buck’s for the man he thinks he can’t have, and Eddie’s for the truth he’s spent his whole life running from.
Or: Eddie sees a TikTok of his best friend singing about heartbreak, and suddenly the closet isn’t just cracked- it’s shattered glass.

But God, I wish you were here.
Yours,
Buck.Eddie just kept his gaze fixed on the letter, on Buck’s words, like if he looked away even for a second, they might disappear.
Did Buck really mean all of that?
Of course he did.
It was Buck’s letter. Buck, who wore his heart on his sleeve when he let himself. Buck, who poured the truth into everything he did, even when it hurt him.
Especially when it hurt him.
Eddie stared down at the paper, reading the words over and over like they might start meaning something different if he just looked hard enough.
"Never just a friend."
What the fuck, Buckley.-or-
After Bobby’s funeral, Buck finds it impossible to speak directly to anyone about how he's feeling — the grief is too much to bear. Instead, he writes letters to Eddie, sending them to Texas in hopes of processing his emotions from afar.
Eddie reading those letters weeks later, before coming back to L.A for good and having a full on breakdown about his feelings for Buck while trying to grieve. -

Summary
He continued to sit at the picnic table by himself, but it felt like he was waiting for something. Waiting for the weather to change and dump rain on him, or for a group of kids to come splash in the water and ruin the stillness of the lake.
Or maybe he was waiting for someone. Someone like —
“Eddito.”
Someone like his Abuela.
He turned in his spot on the bench, looking at the woman standing behind him.
“Abuela,” he breathed, instantly fighting tears.
Or: Eddie has a dream about Abuela after her funeral

Summary
Eddie couldn’t pinpoint exactly when he started distancing himself from Buck.
It probably started before he had even left for El Paso, but now that he’s back in Los Angeles, the distance has become more apparent. Eddie could probably count on his hand how many times he’s hung out with Buck, which a year or two ago would seem impossible. He knew if he was still seeing Frank, it would’ve been a topic they heavily focused on, but he’s not, so Eddie tries not to acknowledge it.
Eddie might not think the universe speaks, but it sure seems like it’s screaming. Or at least knocking at his door.

"My life has been horrors after horrors. Every time I bounce back someone dies, or leaves and it crushes me every time. And I... My two biggest parental figures died in a span of six months and I don't know who I am anymore. What I believe. Because ..."
Eddie stops, suddenly not knowing what to say. He knows that Father Brian wouldn't judge him. He never did. Even though there were times he really deserved to be judged. Like right now.

"Sometimes love is quiet, it doesn't come in this huge fireworks and dazzles, it snuggles you in comfort and safety of another kind soul. Love, like bodies, comes in all shapes and forms Eddie. Love is God, whatever you define God by. God can be nature, or science or again - your Abuela and Captain. You just need to let yourself believe in something before the despair eats you alive (...) chase the sun Eddie. Don't let the clouds win."

Summary
Eddie did not know what it felt like to have a gun pointed at him. Technically, he did, since in Afghanistan people had shot at him so many times that he had lost count, but it had been different then. The people who had shot at him had done it out of pure pragmatism, never to threaten or terrify him before pulling the trigger.
Even the sniper who had targeted him for what was probably minutes had been different, because Eddie had not known. He had not known someone was about to shoot him, so he did not know how it felt to stand in front of a drawn weapon.
He had never wanted Buck to know it.
