Summary
The autumn after Orpheus' trial, Persephone returns to the underworld. She and Hades are trying again, but Hades still has a town to run, and so an arrangement is made for her to have company. Each autumn Eurydice is brought up from the factory and reminded of her name and everything that comes with it, and for six months she's Persephone's lady in waiting until spring comes and she's sent back down to forget it all again.

Persephone asked Eurydice once, back when Asphodel was bright with the Phlegethon's flames that were more warm than suffocating, back before the wall, back when things were good and having friends was as easy as breathing. Why would they keep going back? Why choose rebirth again and again, when Eurydice always died, and Orpheus always looked back? No matter how much she dances with humans and drinks like she is one of them, Persephone is a god. She cannot understand wasting away the ephemerality of a human life when you know it will end in tragedy.
