It is where he originally met Alexius and became his protégé. This fic takes place years before the events of Inquisition. It is an AU featuring a much younger Dorian and an Amheotil Lavellan whose life turned out much differently than it did in his main Inquisition storyline.

This the tale of Inquisitor Davrien Lavellan, the First of Clan Lavellan and his journey. When Keeper Deshanna sent him on a misson to spy on the Mage & Templar Conclave at The Temple Of Sacred Ashes, Davrien had no idea it would send him on a path of love, tragedy, and having to take down an ancient Tevinter magister set on destroying the world.
The first few chapters apart from the prologue are almost a direct write up of the game, but it loosens up after the destruction of Haven.

Laimsa: literal meaning, lost one. An Elven term for their enslaved ancestors.
In this incredibly dark and upsetting tale, the slaver raid Halamar Lavellan survived when he was ten went very differently. Instead of surviving with his clan, he was captured and taken to Tevinter to be sold into slavery. The poor kid tries everything to escape, even suicide, multiple times. He goes through a living hell before being sold to the Pavus family. A young, nearly friendless Dorian, ecstatic to have someone about his own age around, wants to befriend him. Halamar, not even allowed his true name anymore, can't trust him until he proves himself any different from his parents.
This is a tragic and messy teenage romance story. It will be an extremely slow burn between Halamar and Dorian over the course of several years, where they met under very different circumstances much earlier in life. It will be a story about justice and the utter dearth of it in Thedosian society. It will be a story where one of Dorian's first real friendships radicalizes him at a young age. It will be a tale of child abuse, suicidality, and overcoming both. And it will be a tale, against all odds, of revenge and escape.

They helped him find work, eventually leading him to a position as a visiting lecturer at Skyhold University.
There, he met The Iron Bull, a Kinesiology instructor and football coach, whose unexpected kindness helped Dorian begin to heal. What began as a punishment—his escape to Ferelden—slowly became a place of comfort and acceptance.
