When I left Joja Inc. and moved to this farm, I had sold everything I owned, save for my cat, Nutmeg. For some reason, I thought everything would just fall into place the instant I got here. Like some ancient strand of my DNA that had worked on this farm for generations would just spring into action, and suddenly, I’d have a bounty of crops and well-fed animals. I thought I’d endear the townspeople, bringing fresh produce for dinner parties, and selling my own beer and wine at the Stardrop Saloon. I thought maybe, finally, I would have a real friendship.
In reality, the farm had been back-breaking work, and I lived every day in fear that the townspeople would finally see me for what I am--a fraud that has no idea how to grow crops or raise chickens or fell trees. I can't let any of them see that I'm barely holding this place together, especially not that nosy doctor.
