Jamie gets hurt really badly by his shitty excuse for a sperm donor. Like really bad. Roy finds him and takes it upon himself to look after him and make sure James Tartt never sees his son again. Jamie stays with Roy while he recovers and there's some fluff and some smut and a little bit of angst because these two refuse to communicate about anything normally.
Quite heavy upfront leading to eventual fluff and smut.

Nothing had happened that would explain how when he’d gone to get undressed for bed that night he just… couldn’t. How the thought of taking off the heavy sweats he’d spent the evening in felt unnervingly like peeling off his own skin. How he’d crawled into bed still fully clothed, still cold, had curled into a ball, tucked deep under his duvet. How he’d just… gone.
Nothing had happened that would explain why he was still curled into that ball, still fully clothed in the dark all those hours later. Still awake, still gone.
He’s cold.

Jamie clearly needs an outlet. Needs to get out of his own head. But he can’t take Jamie to the community pitch where he grew up, can’t take Jamie on some spontaneous bike ride to find a fucking windmill. Jamie can’t fucking run.
“I think I have an idea.” He’s lying. He has no clue what to do.
Jamie ducks his head, scowls at the floor and tangles his hands together in one tight knot. His knuckles are still white.

And she’d explained, “It’s true, swear it! Was just making pickles on toast for me breakfast, yeah, ‘cause of the fucking cravings you gave me, and then bam! Right there in the kitchen, eight-year-old me is watching eighteen-year-old me dribble pickle juice down my chin!”
How it works, apparently, is that he only gets it once. Don’t know when, don’t know why, don’t know much at all. Do know, though, that sometime in his life, a mini version of him’ll just pop into existence, wander around for a few days, then disappear.
When it happens for Jamie, he’s retching in the boot room and is absolutely fucked.
