Summary
**This was my first ever fanfic that I wrote a long time ago. I'd like to think my writing has improved since its release so apologies if some of it is poorly written/cringy**
This is not your typical boy meets girl story. This a tangled web connecting two people with an already complex backstory, that is slowly revealed throughout. It's a family thrown into deception and a girl on the brink as she twists and turns her way through a difficult time in her life with a seemingly dark conclusion. Throughout this story we journey through some difficult topics including suicidal thoughts, suicide, abuse, obsession and violence as these two characters lose themselves in each other. If you want romance and a happy fairy-tale ending, this is not the story for you. If you want an intense and at times toxic love story, filled with an abundance of sex, then get comfy, grab a cup of tea and lose yourself in Lucy and Ransom's story.
****CHARACTER NOTES****
The main family of characters are based around the Thrombeys from "Knives Out" however instead of Walt and his family, we have Lucy and her dad. Also Meg has a twin. -

“Mr. Drysdale,” she said softly, her voice barely cutting through the noise.
Ransom’s head turned slowly, his glassy eyes narrowing as if it took effort to recognize her. Then, that trademark smirk appeared, lazy and infuriating. “Marta,” he drawled, dragging out her name like it was a joke only he understood. “What brings my favorite... what are you again? Nurse? Babysitter?”
Marta pressed her lips together and stepped closer, trying to ignore the stares from the other patrons. “Let’s get you home,” she said firmly, her kindness laced with resolve.
He laughed, a sharp bark of amusement, before draining the last of his glass. “Home,” he repeated mockingly. “What a concept.”

Ransom never tried to kill Harlan. He just needed time to think, and so he left. The vials are never switched, Harlan survives the night, and everything seems to be fine.
One year later, it's Harlan's 86th birthday. One year since he cut everyone out financially.

At Marta's request Harlan has kept this a secret but when the man is on his death bed in a coma for trying to kill himself to save Marta she is seriously considering revealing the truth and going to jail so that she might have the right to stop his terrible relatives from pulling the plug on him.
(Story will have a lot more showing of there relationship before movie canon and then a lot of canon divergence after that. I wanted to focus more on family drama aspect)

As the pregnancy progresses you find out that it’s not one but two kids. With the pressure from both sides you have no choice but to give the babies up for adoption. Throughout it all Ransom had been by your side holding your hand and helping however he could. Giving up your kids broke both of you and in the end the relationship ended.
Years later you’re surprised to find that two teenagers are in your studio and want to speak. Their sudden appearance in your life will open up old wounds and bring back a bit of hope. Hope that one day the love you gave away can truly return.

There was something fragile in him that peaked through the darkness in quiet moments and stolen words. That was Ransom too.
