Summary
The Nex are a species of biomechanical warriors, infused with swarms of nanites that heal and sustain them, helping them on their conquest of nearby star systems - a necessity after their home star collapsed into a black hole. Driven by their nanite swarms, they invade other solar systems to harvest materials and energy, viewing every other species as inferior biologicals ripe for assimilation or extermination.
Veyla, a young Nex warrior, awakens from stasis aboard an interstellar ship. Eager to get to action, she’s assigned to a ragtag squad under Tykon, a calculating commander and veteran of the Nex conquest. He's seen the war against a reptile race, recently boarded a human colony vessel, and now leads with cautious precision and personal flair.
Together with a gruff shock trooper, a sly scout, a quirky engineer, and recently assimilated former human turned Nex, they get deployed right into the invasion of a system inhabited by humans.
A sometimes humorous, sometimes thoughtful look at an invasion - from the eyes and minds of the Nex.

You know what people say: Artists work hard but artists with ocs work even harder— I wrote this short story to kinda try and explain the backstory of my oc, Kate. What she did pre-event and how she is now. While most of the chapter is written as a diary entry, one part is presented as a memory.
