Summary
Thira, a low-level thief living on the run, has her life turned upside down when she stumbles upon a demon in the middle of a heist. He's alluring, and when he offers her power, she knows she can't refuse. But as their relationship turns from one of convience to something much more intimate, Thira beings to realize that Zephyr is not who he says he is, and that he may not even feel the same way about her that she does about him.
(A short story I wrote as background for a D&D campaign, and I think it holds up, so here it is)

The reimagined telling of the Dungeons and Dragons campaign 'Veil of Echoes'. This campaign is set in the year 1500 in Faerun, after the canon events within the preexisting universe - it is a divergence from other canon material after the year 1493. It is told in the perspective of our seven protagonists: Vena, Zae'lia, Umbra, Go'Ven, Korvin, Ayla, and Itha.
Some spoilers ahead for other D&D material, as well as Baldur's Gate III as this is set in the same universe, roughly eight years later.

Luanne Gray lives alone in the Freezing inside of an old cathedral with no one to guide her through life and bitter cold outside, only statues of old gods and worn books as company. Sick of waiting for something to change, Luanne goes to leave and finds a map to a long forgotten treasure. She journeys to the Blackened Deserts to find someone who can help her in this endeavour. Enter Frey Haendstrom, a grieving ex-general who she asks to help her.

I've always been fascinated by the idea of playing a D&D Commoner, the weakest statblock in the system. "Sidekick" rules from Tasha's Cauldron of Everything provided an option for doing so and even gaining levels, but even the NPC classes felt like straying away from the concept; I wasn't here to play a warrior, expert, or spellcaster, I wanted to be a commoner. 3.5th edition had a solution, with their ultra-stripped-down Commoner class that literally only received the base progression features every character did, and that's what I'm using as inspiration for this character concept.
The odds are absolutely stacked against her, but I'd got some ideas for making the most of the meager character-building options at my disposal!

“You. were. on. a mission,” he'd reiterate. The undrawn ire that had seeped in-between seething pauses would've shaken his core.
