Summary
Briar J. Talbot’s life is crumbling around her. For the past year, she’s been restless and directionless, and her cheating husband has just served her with divorce papers. She’s spending time in the drunk tank after a rowdy night out when her brother picks her up and whisks her away to his farm for a fresh start. There’s just one tiny issue: She can no longer ignore the distant memory of the magic she had as a child. It’s back, completely erratic, and wreaking havoc on her body. Then there’s the question of her humanity, or lack thereof.

Though he has a god complex the size of the Gem Sea and a penchant for sending Briar on dangerous missions, Briar has no choice but to rely on Ras because the alternative is her imminent death, and Shane won’t let that happen.

When Ren starts working at Astralis farm, which belonged to his grandfather, he didn't expect it'd be so difficult to keep crops alive. By the end of summer, he gives up almost entirely, deciding to focus solely on livestock. Starting off rough with Marnie's nephew, things get tense between Shane and Ren as Ren is invited to stay the winter at Marnie's ranch due to his sensitivity to the cold. To put it simply, they hate each other. Shane wants Ren gone, Ren wants to annoy Shane out of spite. Marnie, however, forces them to spend time together, since there isn't quite enough room at Marnie's ranch for Ren to have his own area and wants Shane and Ren to make nice before Winter comes.
