The following morning, Ken woke up terrified and cold…
Wait, cold?
He heard a voice then, and when he turned his head, he met red, tired eyes. Kazutoshi was there, in his bed. Whole and alive, his head still on his shoulders, his tongue still in his mouth… and absolutely no idea he was supposed to be dead.
Ken understood then that he was given another chance. And this time, he’d make sure Kazutoshi survived this nightmare. -

Harada didn’t really enjoy anything too big. They weren’t sure if it was a matter of surprise parties, or if last year had just been too much for him, but they had quickly learned their lesson when they tried something big on him the year before this. Harada had seemed put off by it. He seemed to enjoy spending time like that in a calmer way, with the people close to him like Yukino, or Hama and Chiba, maybe. He swore up and down he hadn’t hated it, though.
That was why, this year, they decided they’d go all out on the next person in line. Tamba definitely preferred the idea of a big thing about her. A big event where she gets to spend time with friends and have fun for the whole day? What’s not to like about that? That was what had her classmates up all night in a secret group chat they’d created for the sake of planning this party.

“It's fine, jus’ stay still” Ken does as he's told. Through shallow breaths he does his best to try not to think too hard about anything at all. The few thoughts left floating around in his brain like soup do nothing to help in that effort.
He's too focused on not thinking he doesn't notice as Kazutoshi mutters something else before a hand tentatively slides across his waist, wrapping around it when he makes no move to get away.
“You're gonna fall off.” Like this his breath just barely ghosts above his neck.
After a night spent drinking on Kazutoshi's birthday, things change a little.
