He had almost killed Spider, someone he raised like a son. Spider is his son, no matter their biological differences. Jake had been too much of a skxawng to realize that. Spider had helped him escape from Bridgehead, and this is how he repaid him? By putting a knife to his throat. What made it worse is that Spider wholeheartedly forgave him. He understood why Jake had to do it.
This fact gnaws at Jake from the inside, twisting and curling in his gut.

The chivalry is gone from his tone, and the warning finally clicks in Spider’s mind. He notices the rifle cradled patiently in Mansk’s arms for the first time.
He’s being offered a second chance.
“Why would I trust you?” Spider counters. Mansk shrugs.
“You shouldn’t. You start trusting people out here, people you think you know, then it all goes to shit.” There’s something else behind his words that Spider doesn’t quite understand.

The Na’vi condemned humans for their brutality, it kept them alive, they don't know our home.
Humans scoff when a Na’vi calls them assassins and killers, we have done worse to ourselves, they don't know.
The Metkayina dive in their seas, they think humans can't swim, they don't know our oceans.
Neytiri, the Omatikaya and the Metkayina all judged humans as killers of their mother… they don't know her killcount.

Jake never felt the need to excuse his species' actions… a kind of self punishing.
