Summary
Seeing him is like living again in ignorance. A time before his world became Fractured – both metaphoric and literal. Seeing him is remembering there was once a time when he thought he could be happy, where he could be happier than anyone else. Seeing him is like the clouds of his life blowing away – like everything he learned 60 years ago was a lie and he can go back to those days where nothing mattered except the sound of keys composing a new melody combined with the sounds of pencil scratching across a journal.
Seeing him is impossible, Verso thinks, because his Gustave died 60 years ago – left to a heartbreaking fate because Verso could not tell him the tragic truth of their world.
Or: Before the Fracture, Verso Dessendre and Gustave were inevitable. When their world split apart, Verso believed Gustave to have died in the aftermath. Why, then, is Gustave alive in Lumière far after his date of Gommage?

Summary
This was how all things began.
Verso ambled about his morning, moving all-too mechanically. The melody persisted. His weight shifted from one leg to the other in a pantomime of dancing, even when he stood still. His chroma -not quite his own, not quite “Verso”’s- shifted as well. Eventually, he would be made to leave the confines of his sanctuary. Eventually, he would be made once again to don the mask of a man overcome with bliss at the chance to finally fulfill his dreams and perform his craft.
Eventually was inevitable.

Summary
The Canvas was destroyed when Verso's soul stopped painting. The end of a long reign of suffering was over.
And then it came back.
Gustave died. He knows that much. He was dead. But now he's back on the ship on the day after the Gommage of everyone who was 33 years old, and now he's back on his way to the continent to repeat the cycle of destruction. But he isn't alone. It quickly becomes apparent that Lune, Sciel, and Maelle are back, too. And they have a plan to save as many lives as possible. And to defeat the painters. Plural. Because that is a thing, apparently.
To Gustave's worry, this plan revolves around Maelle and a man named Verso. A man who will save Maelle on the beach just as he did last time.
But something about this whole things is strange, and this group of survivors they have gathered slowly begin to uncover conspiracies that extend far beyond the problems of their canvas.
Because for Maelle, it's been four years since the canvas was destroyed, and she swears on her brother's grave she wasn't the one to repaint it.

Summary
Verso knows his soul is not original to him. A stitched-up, fractured, and glued-together thing, stained with memories not his own and heavy with the grief of unimaginable loss. His very existence is a farce, a tragedy played out in canvas and ink. He wants nothing so much as to end it. To give the ragged remains of a soul back to the one who created him, let her find someone else to carry the burden and the memory of the man to whom it once belonged. And yet. And yet, still, buried deep inside him is the desire to make this second-hand soul his own. To take the old discarded thing and make it into something new. To live, as they all deserve to live. All he needs is someone to show him the way.

Summary
He should be comforting him, right?
That's what you're supposed to do, when someone loses someone important to them. You're meant to tell them that you're there for them, and show it at every opportunity. You're meant to hold them close and let them hide from the world, face tucked under your chin or pressed against your shoulder or buried into your chest. You're meant to show that you care.
Verso doesn't know how to do any of that.
It scares him, that he doesn't know when he forgot how to.
"Pick up your weapons," Monoco says, and there is no trace of anything light in his voice. He is seriously, deadly serious. "Now, Verso."

Summary
The Expedition is over, and while the city celebrates, Gustave can’t shake the chilling feeling that he didn’t come back whole.
Plagued by inexplicable gaps in his memory, a crushing, bone-deep exhaustion, and nightmares that leave him utterly lost, Gustave finds the familiar routines of Lumière unbearable.
He begins to drift away from his old life, seeking solace in the one place where pretense isn't required: the quiet company of a man he is slowly getting to know better.

Just a heads up: this story is heavy on the angst at first, but I promise the slow burn kicks in later. Also, please bear with me through the first chapter, I swear the writing gets better 🫣

Summary
Maelle painted Verso back to the world. Yet his awakening brought not peace, but pure agony. His sister was still a self-imposed prisoner, and before him stood his most profound regret... Gustave, alive once more.
A new expedition could become their blank canvas. A dangerous opportunity for redemption, a journey to reconcile with grief. To endure, the musician and the engineer must unite as a single force and confront the emotions growing between them.
Love, however, is a perilous prospect, and hearts are easily shattered. Yet the truest portraits are forged from both light and darkness.

Summary
There is a man on the street, staring up at Gustave’s apartment.
He’s dressed well — a sharp suit cracked with gold, wavy dark hair combed back and shot through with white. His cold blue eyes are rimmed red as if he’s been crying for a while. He feels… important somehow, like a missing piece to a puzzle Gustave has yet to uncover.
Or: Gustave navigates resurrection in the wake of Maelle taking over the canvas, and meets a not-so-stranger he cannot place in his memory.

Summary
Verso lived through the fire, as did Alicia, but he didn't wake up. He remained unconscious, and when his family realised that he and Alicia had been found in the atelier during the fire, they realised that Verso has gone into the canvas.
Aline went in after him, believing she could wake him up. She finds Verso, who doesn't remember anything. In his pain addled mind he ended up creating Lumiere, and a painted version of his family, and they were living together happily. Aline helps him remember, but all he could feel was the fire and the burning agony of his body, and so she paints over him and erases his memories again to keep him safe. Renoir then goes in to wake up his son himself, and drag his wife out the canvas, resulting in the Fracture. Expedition Zero goes out to search for their loved ones and rescue them, and inevitably find out what happened from Cleo. Now Verso has to stop his family from tearing apart his canvas, and try keep his mother from constantly erasing his memories to keep him compliant. It goes about as well as you might expect.
(Basically, Verso lived, but is trapped in the canvas by his mother, and now has to deal with the horror of having his family raging war inside his canvas)

Summary
In Lumière, soul bonds are not gifts - they are obligations.
Verso Dessendre has spent years perfecting the art of staying untouched. Once a prodigy, now a soldier, he's learned that wanting anything is dangerous. His hands are scarred. His reputation is carefully constructed. And he has no intention of letting anyone close enough to see what lies beneath.
Gustave Virlogeux is the Academy's most reliable engineer - the one who fixes what the system breaks, who never asks for anything for himself. His prosthetic arm glows with borrowed Chroma. He's useful. Essential. Alone.
When destiny pairs them together, neither is prepared for what their connection will cost—or what it might save. As Lumière's bond ceremony approaches, they—along with Verso's sister Alicia and Gustave's ward Maelle - will discover that the system they trusted might be more fragile than anyone realized.
A story about two people learning that sometimes the most broken things fit together in ways nothing whole ever could.
