Summary
Dean will never be the same after Michael’s possession. The crack Michael left in Dean remains open even after Michael’s death. The archangel warned that there’d be nothing left of Dean but blood and bone. No one really believed him. Until now.
Dealing with devastating consequences in the aftermath of Michael’s possession, Sam and Dean don’t think they’ll ever be able to get back to how things were. But when they stumble upon a new case, they realize that they’ve never been able to say no to a hunt before, and they’re not starting now.
Inspired by 14x10, Nihilism.

Summary
‘It may be uncomfortable for you though,’ Castiel says.
Dean looks up. ‘How?’
Castiel pushes back against the table and wets his lips. His fingers are cold as he runs a hand through his soggy hair and shifts in his damp trousers. He’s miserable, but he’d rather this than that not-feeling, black vacuum. He can’t believe he’s found a place worse than those human nights in dark alleys. At least he felt alive in those.
‘You don’t like it when I push the boundaries,’ he says.
Or: Castiel comes back from the Empty with a budding mirror obsession, too many eyes, and willingness to push Dean.

Summary
"I am not happy.” Dean sighed, matter-of-factly one night, sitting and drinking beer around the kitchen table in the bunker, with Sam and Cas.
“But I understand now that happiness is not in the having.”
Cas looks like he is going to say something more but Dean beats him to it, too intent to seize this bizarre yet hopeful moment, to not let another second pass in vain.
“What if I want to have it, Cas?” Dean gasps out in an almost inaudible voice.Dean hasn't been happy in his life for a long time and his longing for the angel only serves to torture him a little bit more, every day. Castiel on the other hand doesn't think he even knows what happiness is. One drunken admission leads them to the realisation that their happiness is right there in front of them.

Summary
"Dean."
Sam's voice jolts Dean back to awareness. Dean shakes his head vigorously. He crosses his arms tighter; it's more like he's just hugging himself now. He knows what Sam is about to say.
"Dean. I think it's time."
No.
It can't be time.
It can't.
Dean just keeps shaking his head, looking anywhere but at Sam, and his heart is pounding relentlessly and it hurts. It hurts in every way possible. He leans one hand on the door, ignoring the way his stomach binds itself up, the way his chest tightens, and he tries not to start fucking crying. He's lost.

Summary
“Alright. Okay. I got this. I’m Dean fuckin’ Winchester. I can talk to the guy I like, and I can read the poem I wrote, and everything will be fine. I got this.”
Dean takes another deep breath, lets his insides fizzle with nerves for only a moment more, then calls out, “Hey, Cas? Can you come here for a minute?”

drunk-dean gets an idea, sober-dean follows through with it, cas approves, sam ships it. -

Summary
In which Castiel suddenly appears in the Impala with corporeal wings that he quickly grows to hate. They're covered in ash, dirt, and lots of blood, and he really needs the Winchester's help (in more ways than one).
"Cas are you alright?" Sam piped in as he held up his hands with a shrug. He felt the uneasy air surround them and nearly swallow them whole. It tickled the back of both men’s necks, whispering unkind things in their ears as they heard a strained wet cough come from the phone followed by a long, gurgled groan.
Dean just glanced back at Sam with the same bothered expression before Castiel's deep voice cut through the speaker, "No." Castiel swallowed thickly. He needed assistance now. His body is still smoldering, heat pooling off his limbs as he leant against the ally wall. He pressed his forehead to the cool brick as he shuddered back a hiss before he instructed slowly, carefully, "Dean, I need to know exactly where you are right now." If Castiel so much as messes up minutely, he could very well kill himself with what he’s about to do, but he’s been left with no choice. He felt hot blood pool on his back and drip slowly down his spine."

Summary
All Dean knows is that Rowena got mad at him for asking her in a bad Scottish accent to “stop bitchin' and get witchin'”, felt her eyes fall on him like a hawk on a tundra rabbit, and then woke up lying in the snow in the middle of nowhere.
As hypothermia starts to gnaw away at his consciousness, Dean can only think about how pretty the world would be if the sky was the same shade of blue as Cas' eyes.
Wouldn't that be a beautiful world?
Castiel blue. -

Summary
Dean has been procrastinating on his suicide for a long time.
It's been years now, he thinks. Like yet another apocalypse that's been happening silently in the background of all the others the Winchester brothers keep surviving. But this one, this special apocalypse is his own, personal, intimate one.
Mary died a year ago, already. At forty-one, Dean's body has been broken so many times he can't hunt anymore. His relationship with Sam is slowly dying out and Cas only visits once every few weeks.
He's alone.
So he tries to blow his head off. He misses, of course, like the failure he is.
But Cas comes back into his life when he's the most needed. He tends to his wounds and tries to help Dean exhume what's been buried for decades: himself.
What if Dean actually likes talking about his feelings? What if he doesn't want to lie anymore? What if he's not straight? What if he's not who he thought he was?
What if there's still hope?

Summary
The British Men of Letters had done a pretty thorough job ridding the world of monsters. With Sam already out of the life, living with Eileen in California, Dean and Cas are faced with a new predicament. What to do with the rest of their lives?
Clearly the only logical option was to try out the apple pie life thing as two best friends, right?

Summary
Castiel had been secretly watching over Dean for years. He would filter Dean's dreams, keep out the nightmares, keep him sleeping well because everyone knows a good hunter needs a good slumber. One night, warding appears around Dean's room. Castiel doesn't understand why Dean's keeping him out, there's nothing inherently wrong with watching your charge sleep.

Summary
In the end, it all makes a morbid, perfect kind of sense. Classically tragic.
To save Dean, to permanently rid him of Michael's presence, there is only one way. Endless legwork, countless hours of lore-searching, head-bashing and dead-end crashing, blood, sweat and tears...and it all comes back to the same conclusion.
Dean Winchester has to die.
