Rory is the Social Worker assigned to Chiro. He's upbeat and kind, and is very fond of the monkeys. He doesn't really believe in the prophecy, but can't deny the presence of the shambling undead in his life. For a man who isn't religious, the whole thing is really throwing him for a loop.Shugazoom''s Social Services Department has been struggling for twenty years. The war on Cete has displaced so many children; since Shugazoom lacks a major military, given they are a neutral trade planet, they do their best to help by sending food and medicine to the afflicted, as well as evacuating the orphans and displaced children. This has lead to the orphanages being overcrowded and understaffed. If the situation had been normal, Chiro probably wouldn't have been allowed to live with the monkeys. But being things are the way they are, the government to just shrugged the talking monkey thing off and moved on.
Chiro is very fond of Mandarin. Though the orange monkey is short tempered and gruff, he has never called Chiro any of the frankly horrible things that adults have called him over the years. He may be foul-mouthed and impatient, but he's surprisingly quick to dismiss Chiro's natural childhood follies and never, ever even so much as threatens to hit him. He's an adult male in a position of power, but uses it to help others, not to harm. All these things are very new to Chiro, and he's becoming paternally attached to his father figure's grump of a boyfriend.

It started out as nothing but a makeshift surgeon’s hut. Barely lit by sputtering candles and a window that didn’t nearly let enough sunlight through. The table and floor was soaked with the blood of many, but the man that used to live there had been said to have the steadiest and quickest hands that anyone had seen. There was no telling how many lives the old man had saved, even as his age advanced.
And when the surgeon had died, the townspeople had turned the hut into a shrine, of sorts. Until someone had decided to tear it down and pay homage to the god that had so clearly guided the man.
The god of Blood. Death, inevitably, would always follow.
