Though Alhaitham felt a little under pressure at being watched like that, he promptly put the pitcher under the steam wand and circled it around a little bit so the milk could warm up evenly. When it was good enough, he pulled the pitcher down, just so that the tip of the wand would remain in the milk. Adjusting the pitcher according to the sound the wand made submerged in the milk, Alhaitham steamed it. Upon the right temperature, he unceremoniously poured the milk into the cup. Ignoring Kaveh's shriek, he brought it to the customer's table.
"You!!! How could you!! That was perfectly glossy steamed milk, how could you just pour it like that?!" He roared once Alhaitham returned, unleashing his fury upon the other.
"I told you I can't do latte art" Alhaitham simply shrugged at it, deeming it not his problem, and turned back to the work ahead of him.

Rumi looks down. “Your soul,” she whispers mournfully, enraptured by the blue light trickling out of his chest. “It’s beautiful.”
Jinu smiles.
Gently, he presses his forehead against hers. Rumi jolts, eyes widening, but to his relief, she doesn’t pull away.
“My soul,” he echoes softly. “It’s yours, now.”
Rumi opens her mouth, but no words escape her as she gapes at him. A tear cascades down her cheek.
“It’s mine to give, and yours to take, if you’ll have me.” His vision is blurring, and so he lets his eyes fall shut, allowing the darkness to encompass him. He forces himself to believe that the lull of sleep is accepted of his own volition.
His cheeks tingle. Rumi is holding onto his face. “No, no, no—” she grits out. Her voice is growing distant. “Stop. You can’t do this to me.” The words rush out of her in a frenzy, full of haste and distress. “Jinu.”
“Rumi,” he responds in a broken murmur. “Thank you.”
She was right. Gwi-Ma could be defeated.
He should have listened to her.
(Or: A fix-it/time-travel au where Jinu goes back to the very beginning of the story and sets things right.)
