Maxwell blinks. “What?”
“Your father is an absolute arse, and if he doesn’t want you, I call dibs. I’m your new da.”

Day zero: the injured party must not return to duty. If essential job, the backup crew takes over duty. Injured party must be monitored and, if severe enough (see The Zephyr Physician’s Handbook, Chapter 2, Section 7, page 84: Concussions for severity ratings), the injured party must be brought to the medbay for monitoring. If mild, another crew member must accompany the injured party at all time. Regular social activities may resume the next day. Summary
Candia had moved onto a new age, a better, more open one of magic and peace. The remaining royal family of Candia had helped sculpt the new environment of Calorum, assisting the land in healing its wounds.
Ruby had participated, had helped spread that joy, but she had never moved on, herself.
On the day that she turns 24, all Ruby can think of is the sister that she lost; her other half. And all she can do is wish that she had been good enough to save her.
The world, now imbued with more magic than it had been in centuries, hears her.
The clock rewinds ten years, and Ruby wakes in her bed in Castle Candy, to the bright face of her twin.
And, this time, she is determined to change everything.
Ruby has a list and she has the memories of her aunts watching over. She is going to save her family. She is going to save Jet.

Summary
Absently, Ruby is aware of Saccharina moving almost cautiously towards her—the way one might approach a wild animal. Ruby doesn’t even have it in her to send all of her anger and hate Saccharina’s way right now. She doesn’t know how to even begin to explain what she is feeling in this moment, other than the fact that she is dealing with an absence so loud that she doesn’t think she can even speak. Saccharina must intuit this, somehow.
(In the small part of her brain that isn’t overwhelmed by loss, Ruby considers that Saccharina, a girl that grew up alone, without a castle or her family, might actually know a thing or two about loss).

Summary
There's a whole tidal wave of emotions threatening to pull Saccharina out to sea to drown. She swallows them all down, forces a shaky smile onto her face. "It's nice to meet you as well," she says politely. "I would say I've heard much about you, but I fear that might be an exaggeration."
"Ruby doesn't talk about me much, I would imagine," Jet nods sagely. "Has she at least told you about my ideas? You gotta ask her about my ideas, I had so many of them!"
Saccharina thinks about the last time she had tried to ask Ruby about something Jet related, and the anger that had flashed across Ruby's face. Nowadays, Ruby is better at swallowing that anger down and being kind instead, but she's not nearly as good as hiding it as she might think she is and Saccharina knows, she knows their relationship is nowhere near the levels she once dreamed it to be. "I will try," she says quietly. "Your twin is very hard to approach sometimes."
