It was in that moment that Link realized he didn’t remember much of Zelda outside of the few memories he’d recovered on his journey. She was still a stranger.
A stranger that looked at him like he was the love of her life.
…
Link defeated Calamity Ganon and saved Princess Zelda, just as he planned. But he doesn’t remember much of Zelda- only the moments with her in the few memories he’d recovered.
So, suffice to say, he has trouble to understand when she tries to kiss him and professes her love for him. Well, it’s one way to thank him, he’s supposes.
After an awkward explanation Zelda makes it her mission to make Link remember- if not their romance than their friendship.

There’s a false calmness in her voice. She is upset - not with him, but with herself. Understanding smacks his mind like a rough wave against a ship. He pulls away, so he can look at wife. He props his head up on his arm, and waits until their eyes lock to speak.
“I do not miss it, Penelope.” He says.A few months after their reunion, Odysseus and Penelope have a lazy morning together.

“Safe enough,” she heard Link’s voice call in response, and her heart constricted at how utterly worn-down he sounded. Something must have happened.
