Sam does know himself very well. He's accepted that he and Frodo are just too different in status for anything to happen between them. He's not even so sure that they're officially friends.
Bilbo, as always, knows more than he should. He finds the whole thing very funny.

Summary
Merry and Pippin were falling over each laughing, bursting into new giggles whenever they so much as looked into their direction. This was not good, not good at all. Thankfully, Sam seemed less at a loss as to what to do when you wake up with your arm tightly bound to your best friend’s. Though to be fair, Sam didn’t have to deal with the added difficulty of being utterly in love with said best friend.
Frodo loved Sam. And because he loved him, Frodo would do whatever it took to make him happy; even if that means that he will leave him to marry Rosie. They only needed to find a way to loosen the rope, no matter that Frodo quite liked being bound to Sam.

“Damn you, Harrington.” Eddie shakes his head, looking back at the box again.
He can see Robin giving him a curios look, but Eddie avoids looking at her. He didn’t want to answer questions about his damn crush on Steve freaking Harrington and how he keeps getting more perfect by the minute. Eddie needs him to stop, like literally right now.
“Oh my god,” Dustin screams, making Eddie look at him from across the room. Eddie finds him staring at someone, so he follows his line of sight and finds one Steve Harrington, yeah, that one, the one he just asked a second ago to stop being perfect? Yeah, that guy is standing at the bottom of the stairs with a crumpled box in his hands and is wearing glasses.
Steve Harrington just exceeded perfect.

Erik glowers a little less. “Flirting,” he repeats, bland but also maybe just very, very, very slightly, faintly, vaguely hopeful.
“Oh, yes,” Charles says absently, until something seems to strike him. “Don’t tell me you don’t…” He raises his left hand and brandishes the ring. “We promised ourselves to each other last week.”
