Will spotted a strange rock on the grass, just a few feet away from him. It glowed in currents of misty red smokes, so beautiful and inviting. Yet, no one seemed to notice its presence. No one else but him.
The reddish glow on the rock circulated his wrist before the plasma-like content inside it burst open the shell and shot through the air, engulfing his whole body.

Before Will could come out to his mother, by the dumb time-traveling science of a seemingly exotic rock, he stumbled in the distant past whereby Hawkins was still a peaceful, quiet town. Whereby chaos just began to stir. Whereby Henry Creel was just another high school freshman who held only a few secrets short of his odd staring problem and his weird obsession with a certain AV kid.

Summary
Since the Byers’ arrival in Hawkins, Vecna had been reaching out to Will, no matter how hurt and weak. Will could feel he’s being drained by the entity, like his life force was being sucked out of his body slowly. And when Vecna was finally healed, it chose him as its fifth victim.
Will Byers escaped the trance without the want to, but instead of returning to reality, he landed on the doorstep of the Creel house, in 1959, right before young Henry Creel executed his plan.

Summary
Will cannot live if Henry is killed because of the Hivemind. He finds a different way to defeat him.
When it becomes apparent that the party will not win the final battle, Will channels Vecna's powers and traps himself and Henry inside of his mind, believing that despite the initial rejection there is still good in Henry... Will just has to give him whatever he wants in order to draw it out.
