Summary
Post-promised day life for 22-year-old Edward is amazing. He’s married to Winry, has two kids named after Maes and Nina, and even though he kept his automail, he’s never been happier. When his CO calls him in to meet some strange man -he thinks the name is Bumblebee?- and gets him hired at a magic school to teach self-defense and alchemy, Ed thinks that this is when the peace finally ends.
Harry finds himself getting more worried for his fourth year of school. After the events at the Quidditch World Cup, which was just the other day, he can’t help but wonder if You-Know-Who is really coming back. There are two new professors, one insisting that they need to learn about the Unforgivable Curses while being paranoid over every little mishap and the other taking things slow and having them learn the Periodic Table of all things.
Oh, and the tri-wizard tournament is happening this year and Harry's competing. No big deal, right?

Roy Mustang awakens in Ishval, this time he's here to oversee the Restoration efforts. Despite having gained one of the most powerful attainments in alchemy, it had been months since he's performed an alchemical transmutation. The use of alchemy in the Ishvalen Restoration is tightly controlled due to the cultural beliefs and taboos surrounding alchemy in Ishvalen culture.
1/18/26 - Mid-update update. As I am writing through the main story arc, I am really getting into the content that I want to stay in the story and, as a consequence, have updated the rating to mature and updated some tags to show the more serious nature of the content. I also happen to be reading through the manga and am finding a lot of the Roy Mustang content (the main character of this series) is a lot darker than depicted in the anime. I'm leaning into that.
1/25/26 - I feel like I'm getting the hang of my word smithing and narrative voice so I'm making this fic visible to everyone.

The boy came forward, he was much older than a first year, Sirius’ age surely. His free-falling yellow hair fell limp against his empty eyes. His posture was tall but robotic and it took everything in him to take those steps towards the front. There was a sense of defeat, a bone-crushing, logic-defying depression. There wasn’t even a cry for help in those eyes, help wasn’t wanted.
“Regulus.” Sirius breathed.
“Edward Elric” McGonagall called.
Al sacrificed himself in order to help Ed defeat Father. Edward could not get his brother back, no matter what he offered Truth. Concerned for his wellbeing, Roy decides to send Ed far away from Amestris; Joining Hogwarts as a fifth year student. In Ed's Year group he meets a certain four people; Moony, Padfoot, Wormtail and Prongs. Follow Ed throughout the years in Hogwarts and into the First Wizarding War with Voldemort.

"It felt like an eternity had passed before something like recognition sparked in Fullmetal's eyes, and it was only a moment later that he was taking a step toward Roy instead. One shaky step was all it took before Roy felt a small head suddenly face-plant into his chest.
He blinked down at the boy, afraid to move even his still outstretched arm as Fullmetal took in a large, shuddering breath and let it out slowly. As if that was all he needed, the golden head retreated. Then, without even a passing glance at Roy, Fullmetal silently started shuffling toward the exit of the station."

When the Fullmetal Alchemist is sent on a mission to Western Command to infiltrate a group of teenagers who are sending people across the Amestrian boarder for illegal purposes, he comes back two weeks later with rather severe trauma. The mission was successful, but at what cost? Mustang, as well as his team and Alphonse, try to bring back the once fiery teenager as the military works to get the Fullmetal Alchemist back onto the field, no matter what they have to do.
(This is mostly a trauma-recovery fic with a few twists and turns along the way. I'm not very good at summaries, but I hope you give it a try!)

That bastard, he knew Ed had automail and he KNEW Ed was too small young for alcohol. Maybe he expected Edward to pretend to drink it? He surely didnt expect Edward to sit there and do his fake job all day, he was supposed to be looking for signs of fraud. No, he wasnt even supposed to be here. he was SUPPOSED to be looking for him and Al's bodies, but he was stuck here, with a dumb barkeep, drinking. The alchemist didnt necessarily want to drink, he knew that people like Mustang used it as a relief, but he didnt care for the bitter liquid, it was too different from the twinge of coffee, but one thing he did enjoy about alcohol was the burning warmness in his stomach radiating through him. It made him feel....Good, and it made him forget momentarily about everything. About the pain of losing his mother, the way he ripped his brothers body away from him, Colonel Bastard always pressuring him, maybe...Maybe it was a good thing, the drinking. Maybe it was the answer.

He was strange. quiet and loud, Genius and imbecile. Untamed. Not afraid of anyone. Nor teachers, students or ghost.
Thou many theories, everyone agreed on one. He was dangerous."I think one student has a crusch on me" Roy Mustang said suddenly.
Snape raised an eyebrow at the Alchemy professor who appeared seemingly out of nowhere five years ago.
"Many have" he said gruffly. "Thou not as many as Lockhart did" added with a dismissive snort. Mustang was not THAT popular
"I am not talking about girls who think I am handsome"; he surely wasn’t humble. – I am talking about a crush-like... obsession." Snape looked at Mustang once again and for once he did not see that fake smile. The alchemy professor was genuinely worried. And only because of that was Snape willing to hear him out
"well? Who is she?" he nodded. Roy Mustang took a deep breath and looked him into the eyes
"Not she. It’s Edward Elric"

Summary
It's been six years since the Promised Day and Ed's life hasn't become any less chaotic. A member of Resembool's town council, he finds himself strapped for cash as Amestris faces an economic downturn it hasn't seen in nearly a century while Winry continues to help those without funds. Seeking salvation, he calls upon a favor from Roy Mustang and finds himself a professor at East City University teaching the next generation of alchemists.
At the same time, Führer Grumman suddenly dies of a stroke, two years from Amestris' first federal election and General Mustang finds himself in the middle of a campaign to become the next ruler of his country far before he expected he'd need to be ready. All while war between Creta and Drachma continues to loom large overhead.
Alphonse, meanwhile, is trapped in Xing after Drachma strong-armed the weaker nation into preventing westward travel. Stuck in the midst of its own crisis, Al has to find a way out of Xing and back to his family in Amestris before a mysterious new threat arrives.

The boy screamed, pounding his own weapon into the man's stomach and swiping across the soft belly. His stomach tore open, the sharp blade cut his skin like butter as he wobbled away, the blood he leaked trailing on the snow before he fell down a few feet away.
Edward backed away as well, his back thumping into a bit of tall rubble as his knees buckled underneath the shaking and jolt of pain from the wall. He let himself slide down, legs spurring out and hand firmly over his wounds.
