Summary
Chuck is gone, Jack is dead, and Cas has left the bunker. All that remains for Dean is hunting, but even that backfires when he’s hit by a witch’s curse. The curse has him traveling through Cas’ past, doomed to witness his worst moments without being able to help.
By sheer luck, Dean finds a way to communicate with Cas, leaving him notes across time in an effort to make up for past mistakes and let Cas know he’s loved and valued. But will it be enough to change things for the better between them and end the curse that’s keeping Dean trapped?

With an archangel confined in his head, Dean takes the only sensible step: Splash. Buried alive at the bottom of the Pacific, he will be doomed, but the world will be saved.
As he seals his fate, Dean starts to talk, to pray. Even though Cas won't be able to hear him, it helps Dean calm himself. For the first time, he pours out his heart, when, all of the sudden, Cas answers.
All too aware of Cas' secret deal with the Shadow, Dean knows that if he ever is to be rescued, it will be Cas' death sentence.

The last hours were a blur of sorrow, concern for those alive and a complete deprivation of sensation altogether. Now Sam, Castiel and Dean were seated around the big table, drinking and talking somber, voices hushed. Some of those conversations he partook in, some he just disassociated, too consumed by his own grief.
He knew that the Nephilims death was hard on all of them, but he just couldn’t shake of feelings of guilt for he did promise the boy he was the one who would ultimately take his life. The time they’ve spent together had not only led him to regret those words like he had never regretted something before, but it also made him sick to have never properly apologised for it. Sure, he had taken Jack for an outing when they knew his death was imminent, but it would never rid him of this guilt. -

Jack just died. Sam leaves the kitchen first after their drinking session to mourn Jack together as a family, leaving Dean and Cas alone. They drink a little bit more, just the two of them. Then Cas decides to leave the kitchen, but Dean calls him once he is in the hallway. So he turns around and comes back to Dean.

But in the wake of Castiel's deal he's hesitant about being with Dean, because he's afraid any moment of happiness will drag him away into the void - but Dean has no idea, and is left struggling with why Castiel seems so distant from him.
Title comes from Dean's line in 14x9 (The Spear): "We got -- We got Jack back. When was the last time we had a big, no-strings-attached win like that? "
