Chara died, and wake up again as a ghost, the first thing they see is a monster trying to kill a human kid, so they make the most reasonable assumption they can think of: The human did something so evil even nice monsters want to kill them. (they're wrong) They will do something about it even if they can't interact with the world, other than talking to the human, they just need a good enough plan... they just have to be creative!
Frisk just fell in a hole and now there are people trying to kill them and also they're haunted... which sounds worse than it is, because they are haunted by this... small kid, who probably can just talk to them and nothing else, the one problem is that they keep telling them to go fight someone for some reason, and they are being very annoying about it...
...Anyway basically Chara is a small gremlin child that gives Frisk headache occasionally... sometimes... usually... they'll be freinds eventually. (didn't take that long, honestly)

Well. Maybe captivating is the right word. They’re another human—you don’t see a lot of those in this part of town—but they’re far from the stuffy office type Frisk would expect to be working in a place like this. Long brown hair trimmed neatly and pulled from their face by a clamshell clip, a plethora of cartilage piercings—and a septum—and a cropped, dark green corduroy jacket over a pair of distressed black jeans with tears in the knees. They look… frankly… like a college student. They seem to be about Frisk’s age too, with a cheery grin and big, vibrant scarlet red eyes that latch onto them and stay there, as if MK hasn’t captured their attention at all.
To be fair, Frisk isn’t all that interested in the flower either. They suddenly feel a touch underdressed in their apron and old sweater.
