Peter scoffed and stood on the sill abruptly, causing Wendy to gasp. She could never shake the worry that he might fall.
“It is, it is terrible. Before you know it, you’ll forget all about fun and adventure. About making something out of nothing. You’ll forget your dreams. You’ll become like all of them-” he gestured at the houses that surrounded them, their inhabitants likely all sleeping - “and that fire in you will burn away. Don’t you know why I’m here, Wendy? That fire called to me from the other end of the sky. You aren’t like anyone else, but you’re willing to pretend at it.”
Wendy chewed her lip and looked up at Peter, watching emotion play out on his face with so much intensity that she could feel it smoldering in her own chest.
“I can’t just run away, Peter,” she said, her voice soft.

Wendy is older now and coming to realize that not everything is as simple as good vs evil or black and white. She's been haunted by the possibility that she had it wrong, or at least not all right where Captain James Hook was concerned, and on top of that her family is champing at the bit to marry her off. When Peter turns up with the opportunity to escape back to Neverland is offered, she takes it. What might happen?
Hook/Adult Wendy, based largely on the book and especially the 2003 film starring Jason Isaacs as Hook. Rated T for language.
I started this story almost 20 years ago and life got in the way, but I’ve recently decided to come back to it. The first step was to give it a bit of a polish and cleanup, so what’s here now is an updated version of what I published on ff.net in 2007-2008. The story has not changed, but some of the writing has, hopefully, been improved! Please see the opening author note for more information.

For his own daughter, in particular, he was willing to let the hassles of budgeting go and spend some extra. It made Mrs. Darling so happy, seeing the two loves of her life so fulfilled on Wendy's special days. As for her, birthdays were more bittersweet. They were a celebration of her baby's life, but each year brought a twinge of wistfulness that seemed lost on Mr. Darling. -

Wendy Darling ceased to be a child long ago, yet growing up did not prove to be as thrilling as she had hoped in a society where being a woman meant your destiny was confined to becoming your husband's decorative piece or an eternal spinster under the care of your brothers. Tired of swimming against the current and being considered the black sheep of her family, Wendy reminisces about that grand adventure she had in a place where everything seemed easier, where she had the chance to be freer, yearning so strongly to return there that she mysteriously finds herself awakening in Neverland.
What Wendy doesn't know is that growing up entails not just many things in her world but also in Neverland, where she's already too old to play with the children and suddenly stops finding adults as detestable. Especially that villainous pirate who used to appear in her stories and who now, many years later, doesn't seem terrifying to her at all.

A modern retelling of J.M. Barrie's classic novel Peter Pan that has Peter living in a poor neighborhood in London where he lives with a neglectful and often abusive father who wants to escape his poor dreadful life into a life of ease and happiness where no one ever grows up. After a mishap involving Pixie dust following an encounter with a fairy named Tinker Bell, he stumbles upon a place called Neverland where he discovers that he's the only human being in existence to ever fly. He soon grows attached to Neverland to the point where he drops out of school and stays in Neverland to escape from the harshness of reality. Peter soon starts kidnapping children and bringing them to Neverland to be a part of a group of boys he likes to call the Lost Boys. One night, while chasing his shadow, he meets a girl named Wendy Darling along with her two brothers John and Michael. Wendy starts telling Peter Pan the benefits of growing up, which starts changing Peter Pan's world view on life as he starts to realize that not everything is fun and games and that maybe him growing up might not seem like a bad idea after all.

All she knows is she has to answer the craving she buried deep inside her mind long time ago.
Meanwhile Captain Hook, whose dreams are mostly nightmares, has been dreaming about a certain Wendy Darling. He's bitter and cynical, but also lonely.
The pull is inevitable.
Hook has a plan to bring Wendy back to Neverland.
The meeting happens and contradicting emotions are all in bloom.
