[ the warrior chugged from his cup until he drained it completely, set it heavily on the tabletop with the pipe and wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. for a second, he eyed the huge pitcher that stood on the table between them as if he was contemplating getting a refill, but he must have decided against it because - finally - he met Thorin's eyes, exhaled shortly and spoke.

Bilbo sets out to find Gandalf in hope of ridding himself of his parents secret but finds himself instead travelling across middle earth to the lands of Dale. Where war is brewing and a dwarf king faces mortal peril at the hands of an old enemy.
Bilbo is self loathing and has to take care of Thorin, who remembers nothing of the dwarvish customs of courting. Leading to some awkward political tension.
Bilbo is a mess and Gandalf is a little shit.

Bilbo Baggins - the ordinary bookstore owner, guardian of Frodo and a well known gentleman among the local people of Shire. Everyone knew Baggins' family and (even if people loved gossip about them) respected them.
Everything that Bilbo knew and appreciated made a wild turn, the moment he found a metal Talisman. No one ever told him that picking up random trash will throw him into magic shenanigans, dwarves' underground community and rivalry with a dwarf that can easily break him like a stick. Oh, and apparently he is now some sort of Dwarfhunter. Just *amazing*!
/ Or what if the author was bored with life and made a crossover with the Hobbit and Trollhunters series. Welcome so done Bilbo, Dwalin choosing violence, Balin being the voice of reason and Thorin being dramatic and majestic like always

After the fall of Erebor, the Durin line is viewed as cursed. Many believe that the blood is tainted and will only bring misfortune to the other dwarven Kingdoms, so many seek to snuff it out.
After the murder of Princess Dis and attempted murder of the King-in-Exile Thorin and his nephews, the most loyal (and distant relations of the Durin line) escape.
Not all dwarrow believe that their line is cursed, but enough do that the company know they won't be safe with their kind, at least for the moment, so Gandalf brings them to the Shire.
Bilberry (Bilbo) Baggins has been the sole guardian of her young, orphaned nephew, Frodo Baggins, her life is as full as she needs or wants it to be.
Then, ten dwarves and one wizard appear on her doorstep and Bilbo learns that it's not so bad to need a little more. -
