This is my first fic!! Basically a rewrite of season 5 post volume 1 of Stranger Things because I hated all the plot holes, queer baiting, and wasted potential. This is also a work in progress!!

Robin was completely and utterly baffled by Murray’s ability to read people. He had figured out her and Nancy in a clock tick, and, as soon as him and her were alone, Robin learned even more about herself she didn’t even want to know.

Murray had a little tradition of getting the Byers family together and he really couldn't resist when he saw Jonathan and Steve + Will and Mike together after the graduation. At least after this he could finally rest and stop getting involved in their love lives, until he finds someone else.

He ran towards the crumpled figure, heart beating fast enough to sting, and the closer he got the more confused he felt.
This person was completely covered in mud, layers upon layers of mud, and they weren't a girl at all given the tiny bit of nude chest Steve could see peaking out through the man's very ripped shirt.
He kneeled down before the poor guy, praying that he was still breathing. When he couldn't discern whether his chest was moving or not Steve placed a hand on his shoulder and immediately jolted back when he heard him whine in pain.
That whine was very familiar, not that Steve was a connoisseur of whines– not the male ones at least, but (…)

Summary
Summer break, two years after graduating high school. Will and Mike almost kiss, and everything changes. They find themselves on a journey together after a mysterious clue. They have no choice but to finally confront what’s been going on between them for years.
“I keep showing up,” Mike says. His voice doesn’t break, but he feels like it should. “Even when you try to throw me away.”
Will flinches, and Mike hates himself for it immediately.
“I didn’t- ” Will says, and his eyes drop. “I didn’t throw you away.”
Mike’s mouth twitches. Not a smile. Something sadder. “You threw the letters away.” -

That's why when she asks him to get to The Squawk, he drops his bagel full of cream cheese, and does just that. Only, when he gets there, he's unexpectedly pushed into a car with Steve Harrington, the one person he can truly say he hates.
Now he's sure of two things: If Nancy's an angel? Steve Harrington is the devil Incarnate.
And, more importantly, a bigger question: Should He Stay or Should He Go?

Will's eyes widened and felt his face quickly heat up. He didn't know if that's what Murray was implying, but it sure felt like it.
“What?” Mike spat out before anyone could get another word in, like his answer was locked and loaded.
Murray just let out a small chuckle, it was almost mocking. Will's face was probably so red right now, he couldn't see but he could just feel himself blushing.
“I mean that you two seem really close. One could even say you're too close.”
Will and Mike quickly looked at each other, Will noticed Mike's face heating up too. Both of them are blushing out of probably pure embarrassment.

Back at the WSQK, Joyce and Mike watch over Will's unconscious body. When the rest of the crew shows up to form a new plan, they realize things have changed. All while Mike has realized things have changed... Within him.

Will's eyes were stuck on Mike's lips; so close and magnetic, causing Will's own lips to tingle and buzz with anticipation. For once, he wasn't scared to look. For once, his feelings felt reciprocated.
Mike's tongue darted out to wet his lips, and he knew Will was watching. But, fuck, was he scared. It's not like he'd never kissed anyone before--- He kissed El multiple times. Made out with her multiple times. But this felt different. Anxiety pooled in his stomach, and all he could do was stare with his sweet, doe eyes. -

"Doesn't absence make the heart grow fonder or something?" Will asked, tugging at the sleeves of his sweater.
Mike shook his head and smiled. "Apparently. But that didn't really happen for us."
Will took in a deep breath as he reached his hand out. But before he could give Mike any sort of comforting touch, he pulled his hand back. "I'm... Sorry. You must be devastated."
Mike opened his mouth to speak, but he closed it immediately. They've had vulnerable conversations before--- But this time, Mike was afraid to say anything, especially after he discovered the truth about the painting.
"What's wrong, Mike?" Will asked, his voice gentle and kind. He could tell something was troubling his best friend, and he wasn't just going to sit in uncomfortable silence.
Mike sighed and sat up a bit, tugging on his seat belt uncomfortably. "I'm... Not devastated. Not at all."
