And Riften—once a damp little mess of canals and crime—has reinvented itself into a moderately successful urban sprawl, home to over 1.3 million residents. Towering glass buildings reflect the endless parade of headlights and LED ads, while electric buses hum down streets once haunted by whispers of thieves and assassins. Now, it’s all smartphones and credit ratings. The world has changed. Only humans remain.
At least, that’s how it looks on the surface. If you know where to look, you can still find traces of the old world—vampires who’ve learned to live in the light, an elf or two stubborn enough to outlast history, a dragon lurking where no one believes they exist… and from the shadows of Oblivion, something still watches, waiting for the right moment to step through again.
