But when a distortion portal appears before her camp one night, she finds herself sent back in time with an important mission - somewhere in the land of Hisui, there is another human who seeks to use the power of the gods for his own ends. Dawn must find and stop him before he can get a chance.
If only Giratina had bothered to explain any of that before she ran smack dab into Volo and told him that she was from the future.

Summary
Waking up at home was like waking up from a nightmare. One that he’d lived for two years.
He remembered. Everything that had stayed out of his reach for so long he could remember. He was Izuku Midoriya, his moms name was Inko, he was from Japan in the year 22xx, and there were no pokémon here. There were no Wardens or Nobels, No Galaxy Team or Bandits or Volo, No Legends, No Akari.
He was never going to see them again.

Upon completing the Pokédex, Arceus keeps it's end of the bargain and returns Izuku to his home at the very moment he left. With no warning of this, Izuku struggles to grapple with a modern world he only so recently remembered. His friends he made in Hisui are a world away in the distant past, all but dead now. His whole world has tilted and everything feels uncertain
But he has his team. He has his memories, and his mom back.
Izuku will be a hero. Of that, there is little doubt.

Under most circumstances Arceus preferred to select his own Heroes, usually at birth. Like his Champion in his home region, or that kid with the Pikachu who has very kindly been running interference for him these past 6 years.
Unfortunately, both were significant enough that sending them to Hisui was a major risk.
So sometimes, when the stars aligned, Arceus would need to branch out.

Izuku would like to file a formal complaint with the powers that be. Being kidnapped across time and space was not on his to-do list on a Tuesday night. Not that he can remember what he had been doing, or even that it was Tuesday. In fact there are only two things Izuku can really remember. The first is his name, and the second is that he will be a hero. No matter what.

A retelling of Legends Arceus with a twist. Focusing on the study and behaviour of Pokemon in their natural habitat. Our protagonist is young man from Galar who was to be studying under Professor Rowan. He was supposed to be studying evolutionary biology under the professor but Arceus seemed to have different ideas for Nathan.
I'm guessing the time period is roughly 1850s. But being a small frontier town Jubilife Village will have very little in terms of modern technology.
